    Hello All,
Investigating the options involved in purchasing a first board (93Kg, 5'8", Lahinch beach, 43yo). All this would seem to add up to a long(er) board and one of the brands that has popped up is http://http://www.torq-surfboards.com/longboards.html
Does anyone have any opinions either way on these boards? The 8 or 9 in particular.
    Thanks.

Check to see if the shop stocks spare fins and also ask if you can see or borrow a demo board

Don't know the brand but you'll want to check if it is it has a light glass job and if it dings easy.

And if anyone local can fix them

If they recommend a shaper, ask him about the boards

You're right about starting out on a bigger board. As Rodent says, have a chat with a shaper and they'll point you in the right direction. Ian Johnson of Cequential surfboards lives just outside Lahinch would be a good person to speak with.

I have Torq 9'0" and I have to say I love it. Light and well made. Replacement fins are no problem. I'm the same weight as you so with 72 litres of volume it paddles great and catches waves easy. If I were to buy it again I would so I'd say go for it.
