Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Stove Installation Quote

Hi, I got a quote to install a freestanding stove (the stove itself was priced separately). The installation is in a vaulted room, and the flue will be approx. 4.5m - 5m, straight off the top of the stove and through the vaulted ceiling and roof. The quote is €1400 and includes commissioning the stove, installation of flue, 2 single wall and 3 twin wall through the roof. Installation of lead flashing and fitting cowl to flue. The €1400 includes all parts (flue etc.) and labour, but does not include the stove or hearth (being optional).

Does €1400 sound fair, I'm told it'll be two people for a day? Installer will not give breakdown on cost of parts versus labour, not company practice!

    Ditto to this.

I also had a freestanding stove fitted in December. Similar overall price (stove itself was about 900 if I recall correctly). They were about four hours doing the whole job, about 10 or 11 metres of flue liner (which is a LOT more expensive than I'd expected!) and all the other bits mentioned as well.

Your quote doesn't sound madly expensive, especially if it's going to be done right - there's enough of threads and posts on here of fittings that weren't to give me the heebie-jeebies - but I was happy with the service I got and I trust that in the event of something going wrong (fingers crossed never!) they'll look after me.

ETA - I'm in Dublin and have my suspicions that I was always going to pay more for the fitting/labour/etc than down the country. Can't prove that, but I think costs for something like this are dependent on where you are. Just my gut feeling.
