Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Advice for young writers?

    Hi,

My 15 year old Son is very interested in pursuing a career as a novelist when he leaves school. After secondary school he will be going on to study creative writing.

He has already written a few short stories and also a full fantasy novel.

Can anyone tell me please where he could send this novel to see if it is good enough to publish? Or maybe even have it edited?

He has submitted a couple of short stories to online review sites and has had some excellent reviews.

Any advice you can give a budding writer is much appreciated.

The one piece of advice I would give would be to read voraciously and to read from many different genres.

Analyse the structure and form of the literature as well as the content.

Start keeping a journal which should include vocabulary as well as day to day reflections and include reviews of all books read.

Not bad. At least he knows how to use a semicolon, unlike most of the population. As advised above, recommend voracious reading and regular writing.
