Oxman brown ale, 5.8%, produced by the Brown Paper Bag Project.

4.50 for a 33cl bottle in a pub - not bad value for what seems to be very good quality

    What pub is that?
    that's a good price!

truth be known all of their brews have been excellent.

    hmm, not their golden ale!

but then, I've not had a good golden ale.

but every single other one of their beers have been brilliant. Excellent little brewery there.

much the same really, I would be in the Artane one a lot more often so I know it better. The staff in either are friendly and helpful. Parking can be a problem at both stores too.

Went to the Artane and was lucky to get a spot outside.
Got the last Amber Ella got a nice selection from there too will post it up later.

Crafty Dan/Thwaites Triple C - Chinkook, Citra & Centennial. "For Hop Heads Only".

I don't think so. Weak and uninteresting.

I'm not mad about golden's either mainly as I find them a bit too syrupy but I still couldn't fault theirs. I'd prefer some of their other brews mind but as goldens go, IMHO it was a good drink.

BREWMEISTER HOPPED TO THE GATES OF HELL.

Sorry for caps but please avoid this.
It's like drinking melted plastic and soap.

McHughes are selling Porterhouse Wrasslers for €1. Exp date end of the month. Not an amazing stout, but well worth 1 euro!

Had a pint of J.W. Sweetman's Porter there yesterday. Moderate head, hint of roasted malt. It was tasty enough.

€1 for a bottle of Wrasslers is fantastic value.

Currently drinking a can of Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale.
Quite a fresh fruity initial mouthful or two but a nice soft malty aftertaste from it.
Sounds weird but it almost smells like cream soda (in a good way).

Was anyone listening to 'movies & booze' on Newstalk last week. They were talking about Pleasant Porter (I think?). Has anyone tried it?

Yup. Pretty damn good, I thought.

I think Pleasant Porter is great, yeah.

Stone Barrel's Boom Session IPA. Quite a tame IPA as the "Session" might indicate, but I'm not sure where the Boom is.

    Nice enough.

Contract brewery filtered it out. SB were livid. Boom 2 will be Boomier, we're promised.

Ha. It has a really nice flavour, anyway.

Amber Ella went down very well. Lovely amber coloured nicely hopped.
Love the sweetness too but not taking away any of the hops.

James Squire 150 Lashes Pale Ale another very bland beer.
Malty notes slightly citrusy nothing to write home about.

Trying to get a space outside mchughs is extremely hard. I would go there a lot more if it was easier

The creche next door is usually quiet, or else at the Goblet across the road. It's a pain trying to get across the Malahide Rd though if you're stuck

I've often parked at the garage to avoid the mess, but yeah. Crossing can be the worst part!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭BMJD

Parking outside the Kilbarrack store is worse, reversing onto a-main-road-around-a-bend won't end well :o

Tried a mountain man green bullet last night. Dreadful stuff, it tasted like a bad lager. It beats me how they market this stuff as pale ale.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

Ah, I think Green Bullet is alright. I prefer the Hairy Goat, though.

I didn't realise you had a new blog. I have it bookmarked (you had me as sour damsons). Out of curiosity, where do you buy your beers? Have you a favourite off-license?

    that's a good price!

    The Swagman, Wine street, Sligo.

BPBP Oxman brown ale = 4.50. The price is written on a small blackboard, which has recently fallen down behind the cask on the counter. Maybe the price is a special offer??

O'Hara's Leann Follain used to be 5.00 in the pub, say last year, but is now 5.80.

    Other prices have jumped, too.

They do have cask ale, and it is a good, lively pub.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,384 ✭✭✭✭Geuze

After the BPBP Oxman brown ale, I switched to Hopus.

It seems to be like Duvel, a strong Belgian golden ale???

It didn't do much for me to be honest, but maybe that's just me.

And at 6.50 for 33cl, it was not a good deal.

I regretted not sticking with the Oxman ale.

Treating myself to a bottle of Of Foam And Fury, seeing as it's a nice day!

Finally got around to having my bottle of Brown Paper Bag Project's Gøze. Really enjoying it. Very lemony and tart with a slight salty/savoury aftertaste. Sounds mad but it works. Goes great with fish.
