Electric Shower: "Burning" Smell?

Please consider me an absolute amateur on all things plumbing-related!

My parents' electric shower has recently had a noticeable "burning" smell. I describe it as either "burning" or (and this is specific, I know) the "smell of fresh rain on hot concrete".

I'm not sure exactly where it's emanating from, i.e. whether is the shower motor housing or possibly the shower-head itself. It's too difficult to pin down, but there doesn't appear to be any degradation in performance of the shower. It's still as hot & powerful as ever with full control of pressure / temperature acting as normal. The only symptom is this odd smell.

Does that sound familiar to anyone or does anyone have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot further? Thanks in advance!
