Where to find reasonable price household stuff

My brother is moving into unfurnished sheltered accommodation so needs everything!!. It's just a studio flat but he needs all the kitchen stuff like crockery, cutlery, tea towels, saucepans etc also bathroom stuff like towels, and he needs duvet covers, sheets etc. He's disabled now so I'm coming over to sort all this out…

Is there any shops I can go to so I can get all this at a reasonable price as he doesn't have that much money. We have places like Poundsavers and Wilkinsons in the UK which are great for cheapish stuff....but while I come to Dublin a lot I don't normally shop for this type of stuff so no idea where to go.

He also needs new bed,,,maybe an orthopaedic one and a new TV...and a small table and couple of chairs, second hand will be ok.

I don't mind if I have to go into town for the bigger things like this but want to get all the household items in one place if I can.

I will be based in Sandymount, he's currently in Dun Laoghaire so preferably somewhere on the southside. Wont have a car either so will need to taxi everywhere.

Any recommendations gratefully received !!

In dun laoghaire there is "dealz" owned by poundland UK, and there are 2 or 3 other €2 type shops on the main street.

Last time I went in I took photos of things and their prices, they can be stocking identical or very similar things but can be cheaper in some than others, so I was able to go back to another shop if it did end up cheapest. Dealz stuff is 1.50 and I got several things cheaper there than the others, it was tupperware dishes and they were microwaveable, the dealz seem to have better quality stuff. They are very close together which is handy.

Also in dun laoghaire is shaws & penneys & dunnes, for bed sheets etc. There are charity shops on the main street too.

Yes, Dunnes is expensive! Buy the bed linen & towels in Penneys. I dont know anything about the prices in Shaws. Dealz have loads of stuff you will need 1.49e each! Dealz even sell food i.e bread, milk etc. Good luck with the shopping.

Look in Argos, they have lots of very keenly priced "studenty" sets of household items and there's one in Dun Laoghaire.

Penneys should probably be your first stop.

For the bed and other furniture you might try bigmickey.ie. I've never used them but they got plenty of good reports in here over the last few years.

Thanks...where is the Argos in Dun Laoghaire ?,I've never spotted that one...is it a recent addition ?.

No, it's been there for years, in George St the next corner from Bloomfield's entrance... unless they moved out recently?

Thanks for all this, it looks like I can just get everything in Dun Laoghaire which makes things much easier. I noticed while google mapping MHGE's post that there is also a bed shop called Just Beds, anyone know anything about them,,,,cant find any reviews.

I think that they are both gone unfortunately, replaced by LIDL and Paddy Power.

Don't worry, thanks anyway it's been really helpful. I'd imagine the Just Beds shop would be ok, I rang them and they can get him one delivered in time so should be ok. I'll let you all know how I got on.

Thanks all, we got the bed in Des Kellys, which was in Sally Noggin right near the Rehab hospital so not far for brother to travel, also got a nice high leg easy chair there, all delivered on time. Shaw's only had the tail end of the sale but I did get a nice bedspread for 10 euros, and ended up getting the rest of bed stuff in Tesco's. Dealz didn't have much kitchen stuff but I did get the cutlery there (very cheap) and the curtain, crockery etc I got in Argos and to round it off nicely, his mate gave him a flat screen TV. The advice was great as I didn't need to trawl all over the place.
