Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know they blocked access to The Pirate Bay a few years ago. Looks like they've now blocked access to Kickass Torrents.

Are these sites blocked by other ISP's too (e.g UPC who I'm thinking of moving to), or just Eircom?

Piratebay is blocked on all, Kickass and all the others are available on UPC, but i'm sure it won't be long before all follow suit.

    Proxy baby :pac:

Yeah, Proxy is the way to go. Was just curious as I have had no end of problems with Eircom broadband in any case, so might be time for me to switch.

Just this morning as far as I know - or maybe yesterday. I don't think I can post the URL here, but used the main site, not the proxy address.

Kickass is available on UPC. Wouldn't worry about blocks though as there are plenty of proxies floating about for both.

Or just use piratesh*t.com. It's like a piratebay mirror or something.

No need to use a different site, just google as usual.

Yep, just checked, Kickass blocked on eircom with me too:mad:

Running your own proxy is such wasted effort. Every torrenting site has its own dedicated proxy website, where basically it gives you the proxies to circumvent.

Google it and youll be fine within seconds, without having to setup proxies and the sorts.

Think it's the same site as piratebay....looks exactly the same. Just a different domain name.

Blocked on Vodafone today now too (efibre), interesting.

I suppose it does put off casual downloaders. But of course the real question is where does it end... I follow the torrentfreak news website (NOTE TO MODS: THIS IS A TECHNOLOGY NEWS WEBSITE) to keep up to date with what's going on in the world of net neutrality, torrents, copyright etc. Will they decide that this website is too informative for wannabe pirateers and block that too? It's a bit worrying.

I just wanted to be careful!

My brother has just pointed out to me that while ISPs in the UK block a lot of torrent websites, they also have blocked NZB / usenet indexing sites. Is this the way it's going in Ireland? Does anyone know of any ongoing court cases?

If it's blocked, there should be a redirect to a page with a court case decision number, just as with Piratebay.

So is it actually blocked, or simply failing to connect?

This is what you get if you try to access the site on eircom.

This is the message I get:

ACCESS TO THIS IP ADDRESS RELATING TO THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN BLOCKED

If you have questions or concerns that you would like to discuss please contact:
    eircom broadband support on 1890 260 260.
    Meteor support on 1905.
    eMobile support on 1 800 690000.

    --

I get the same message for The Pirate Bay. No court case decision number on either message for me.

Note to mods, not a torrent site, type into address bar > hidemyass.com < enter any web address as normal then. If mod wants to delete for any reasons, feel free

It might be a good idea to ask in the Eircom forum is this a screw up as part of their regular level of incompetence, or if they've now decided that they're the arbiter of what people can and can't see.

Torrentfreak is blocked by David Cameron's alleged "anti porn" family filters.
Don't like to say "I told you so", but I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one pointing out to those in favour of filtering porn that the government would abuse it to block other stuff as well

Anyway, meh. It's so easy to get around this stuff anyway :D

Kickass now blocked on Vodafone DSL.

Can we discuss proxies or is that not allowed?

This was reported in the Indo about a fortnight before Xmas that Eircom was going to block Kickass, it had something to do with Sony.

    Looks like this is it:

It seems Eircom/Vodafone rolled over to the new regime of corporate controlled censorship that Sean Sherlock imposed.

I haven't investigated the proxy scene in a while because I was happy enough just using KAT's app on my phone and forwarding magnet links to my NAS, but it really is like a game of whack-a-mole now. There's no way you can stop it, not the way they're going about it anyway. You're just giving a bunch of suits a sense of satisfaction from blocking it and giving us a sense of satisfaction from getting around the block. That's about the net effect. Honestly, it took me the regulation 15 seconds or so to get around the block on the desktop and a bit longer on my Android.

Eircom need to go. On top of the general shafting of customers (bad speeds, really poor offers - and phone line costs), they treated my mother and father (who were migrating to UPC) with such hostility, it was literally sickening.

I understand that ISPs are pressured to block these sites in an effort to cut down on sharing, P2P and piracy etc, but I must admit, the clampdown sits very well with their repugnant character

Unless people fight stuff like this though its going to happen across the board.

You've only to look at the uk and see what sites Sky are blocking,

We can start by not voting for Labour - ever.

The Labour parties in the UK and Australia are ever worse than ours, but only because they have more power. If Labour in Ireland get a bigger share of the seats in the Dail, we'll end up like the UK.

If you're wondering what happened in Australia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_Australia#Proposed_mandatory_filtering_legislation

I remember reading that they actually wanted to censor porn that contains women with small breasts because they too similar to the breasts of underage girls. It's madness.

You are aware that the current blocks in the UK are being rolled out under a non Labour government right?

The bigger issue here is serious lobbying from the big media business's to push what they want,

Regardless of what measures are put in place I can never see piracy being stopped in any meaningful way.

You're right actually, I though it was initiated by the Labour Party in 2009 and then carried on by the Conservative Party in 2010, as censorship is right down the UK's Labour's alley considering how PC the country is because of them. I'm not a fan of the Conservative Party either because they seem to no different from Labour.

Labour is definitely the problem in Ireland, they're supposed to be for the people and not the corporations, but I think they're on the way out anyway.

This is a political issue with the responsibility lying with Sean Sherlock and the FG/Labour government. ISP's are complying with a court order and have little choice in the matter, very important blame gets proportioned correctly here. The notion that record companies are dictating court orders through financial motivation is concerning indeed.

But there is no court order involved this time, Eircom/Vodafone/Magnet were simply spineless. UPC stood up to them, hence no blocking on UPC for Kickass.

Sites like UPC and similar offering high download speeds and un limited capping will never fully allow torrent sites to be blocked. They are well aware of proxies and would be cutting off one of their main target audience if they tried blocking these too. They were bound by the high court but know that their product still has a place in the market as long as proxies allow access so it's nothing more than a token gesture compelled by the courts in the case of UPC anyway.

Still on three atm, companies should be looking to provide content that is easier to access. They will never learn that

What of the Irish times report and the Voadfone blocked access message? All the ISPs bar one hardly dropped their pants in unison from corporate pressure.
