Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Discussing alternatives to KAT on here is kind of frowned upon but the smallest bit of Googling should answer your question.

very true, but i may rephrase my question, what i meant to say was what happens when we can no longer access free downloads, will we go back to DVDs or will life return to normal lol. also do you remember that time in the Simpsons where TV was banned or something and every one returned to the real world??? lol that'll be us soon

What? You actually think blocking a site makes any difference? Besides, there are already other methods, streaming sites and Usenet. It's a big game of whack a mole

Well there's always Netflix and that kind of thing. More robust physical media like a dvd is maybe a good thing for archival purposes but day-to-day they're more of an impediment. You have to store them, find the one you want to watch, wait through the unskippable warnings and awkward menus, then put them away again and God help you if you ever lend one to someone because it's not coming back in as good a state as it left you. I'm never going back to dvds and I always back up my data.

there are proxy sites available for ALL these torrrent sites, esp pirate bay.... simply google for it......

ISPs only block the actual copyright infringing website...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 step39

Don't they understand how the net works? For every torrent site they close down more open or simply change i.p. address. If they carry on they will end up having to block the whole of the web. Not only that simply using a proxy gets round these stupid blocks anyway. The Music industry is failing to come to grips with new technology and they need to adapt. The real immorality here is the popular music industry itself where people who's only talent is to be able to sing think somehow or other they are worth more than a heart surgeon or a nurse. Music needs to go back to its roots where entertainers earned a wage more in keeping with their true value to society. The whole record industry is a travesty that should never have been allowed to develop in the first place. How can someone like Elton John, I name him because he has been active in anti piracy action, how can he believe for one minute that singing a few songs should be paid in millions. I'm not saying for one minute that artists should not be paid for their work, what I'm saying is that no performer is worth the obscene amount of money that some of these people earn and that is where the real immorality lays and where the real debate should take place.

Indeed, the block is gone again for me. Probably a glitch though.

What's goin on with kickmirror? All I can see is the text and links. None of the interactive features are there. Can't hover to see comments, no magnet links, no download button!!!??? On voda fibre BB here if that makes a diff!?

    Just tried it,working fine.

I'm with UPC. Main kick ass is blocked but mirror is working exactly how it should. As a mirror!

I wonder how long it is until they try to alter the wording of these court orders to say, for example, "KAT and all sites which mirror KAT"? and what would be the fallout of that?

Same thing, they could only block mirrors as they appear, but as soon as that mirror is blocked another would spring up, no difference.

True, but you're getting into possibly considerable inconvenience for the user. On the other hand, there'd probably be a site that pops up dynamically listing good mirrors. No chance of Eircom ever being able to implement some sort of algorithm which blocks mirrors as soon as they come on line?

Bought a bluray version of a film and timed from disk going in till able to play including the stupid thanks for not pirating this film along with don't pirate films and it took nearly 15 minutes to start. Wtf!

15 minutes?! I hope that's an exaggeration because a 15 min wait would be insane. Even if it was a first-run thing only it would still be unacceptable. DVDs should take you straight to the menu on loading. They can have as much extra content as they want but let them be optional always.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,578 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

    That's absolute madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,424 ✭✭✭StaticNoise

Nope, that's nothing out of the ordinary. They are still sticking tons of information onto the DVDs.

Nice of you to offer that but since when did private sites with an invite system look kindly upon members doling them out willy-nilly?

Feeling fairly smug about not checking it out now. :pac: Bloke sent me 3 PMs and all. You have to say, in fairness, it's a harder working spammer than most. It would be interesting to see how far you could get into the signup process before they started asking for credit card/SSN/download their special torrent client.

While we might all be using Tor one day to look at anything, for now it's overkill, even on the torrent sites since there's plenty of easy to access and use Web proxies. I used Tor myself but found it to be slow sometimes, which is the nature of the beast.

Not at all but I couldn't see why they would be asking mothers maiden name unless the next page was going to be asking credit cards details
    I use
    Mr s Holmes
    212b Baker Street
    London

They use it as a security question. But that doesn't mean you have to use the real name. Just on you'll remember.

I was having an issue with it last week and got a new mirror site from my friend. Then started having an issue with that. Found a proxy with a quick Google and have been using that with no issues since. I'm on Vodafone fibre BB. Just out of interest, I tried kickmirror again yesterday and the issues were resolved.

Yeah it works fine at home with the mirror and eircom broadband , just won't load properly on the phone which is with vodafone .

I'm looking forward to the war between myself and Eircom when I move out of this flat in May(eight months into an 18 month contract).

They better provide a service where i'm intending to move to next! If not...well, I don't know...do they take me to court for breach of contract?

I'm sure there's a thread on this dilemma somewhere...?

Not to get off topic, but I'm sure it's in the terms and conditions of the contract you entered into that they are only obliged to provide service at your current place of residence. Should you decide to move, they're under no obligation to provide a service to you, whether the ability to provide that service exists or not.

For the most part, providers will transfer your service. I know Vodafone gives one free move per contract. Sitcom on the other hand might charge for that service. That's even assuming you're moving to an urban Centre with broadband capabilities and not shifting off to the sticks where there might not be.

Interesting, I shall consult the small print! I did a runner on a UPC contract last year and got away clean :D

Much less respect for Eircom over this damned blocking of pirate sites. I don't even use Piratebay but blocking sites p1sses me off nonetheless. And seeing how it's so easy to get around the blocks, it's really just them being chicken ****s.

Although, I'm sort of on the fence with the pirating thing. If I could afford Sky, I really would have it, and there'd be no need for me to pirate things like Top Gear or Formula 1. That's all I really download. And I don't have a TV, and don't intend on getting one. I'm a student scraping by as it is....goddammit!

    First world problems.

well obviously it is slower... it routes all your traffic through proxy servers in countries where there is no isp's blocking sites

its not that much slower though... for normal browsing i use firefox for torrents i use tor browser.. for movies i use xbmc

Was there a court order reversing the block that we didn't hear about?
