I really hope that's not true that there was a history of them being left alone at home, if that was common knowledge in the area & that info got into the wrong hands...

It's all a bit odd. Hard to see a positive outcome at this point.

I really hope the child is found safe and sound but it does seem a very odd story. I really can't imagine that a 3 year old child who decides to leave the flat during the night is going to put on his coat and shoes. Now the news reported that the child hasn't been back to school since Christmas.

I don't know what the weather is like over there but surely sniffer dogs would have picked up the child's scent if he'd just wandered off.

When I was about 4 or 5, my mum collapsed in the bathroom and hit her back off the old fashioned bath. She couldn't get up and she sent me to get help from my grandmother who lived nearby. When I tried to get out the back door I couldn't as my parents never left the key in the lock in case we wandered out. So I had to carry a kitchen chair to the front door in order to reach the door latch. It just seems odd that a child could dress himself and wander off unheard

I suppose the best outcome would be if he had been taken by a family member, at least then he would be being looked after. Have to say having my kids go missing is my absolute nightmare, all my friends think I'm rediculously over protective but when things like this happen it just terrifies me

This is the usual fuckwitted comment that's rolled out as a short cut to an intellectual position.

It's exact equivalent in political threads is that it's impossible to disagree with regimes in places like North Korea because of Merica.

Hope child will be found but the whole story is not adding up at all, you get the feeling someone is telling lies.

Watched a bit on Sky News earlier, I have a feeling the police are holding back on infomation that they may have.

I dont have kids but look after my niece and nephews regularly and some of my friends kids, i wont let them out of my sight for minute. They say i am overproctive, but i couldnt live with myself if anything happened to them.

    The whole thing stinks.

3 year old kids lack the know how to do a runner. He gets up, dresses and puts on shoes before opening a few doors and off. No chance.

It's a very sad story. Poor lad.

Living in Edinburgh myself and the weather isn't good at the minute. Cold and rainy.

It's not looking good for the lad but credit to the local community, they've really come together to try mend this situation and help out where needed.

My little girl is 3. When I put her to bed each night I know for a fact that there is not a chance in hell that she would climb out of her warm bed, get dressed and put her shoes and coat on, and climb downstairs to try and leave her home where she feels safest. Her home that is obviously locked up and she can't reach the door, wander out in the pitch dark, freezing cold. Does not make any sense whatsoever. Child was abducted as the theory that he left of his own accord does not add up.

I presume they have looked under his bed for him? i once fell asleep under the bed as there was thunder and lighting, my parents gave hours looking for me.

My son is 3 too. The only place he'd go is straight into our bed. It wouldn't occur to him to get dressed and even try to open the door downstairs even if he could open it.

Same actually goes for our 5 year old.

    Deplorable post.

What more would you expect from a keyboard warrior, big man behind the computer screen, probably lives in his mother's basement wearing an 'I shagged Sharon Osbourne' T- Shirt, I hope for society as a whole and for any potential offspring that you don't bother procreating.

On thread, will keep this child and his family in my prayers. The world we live in really is poisoned by sick individuals.

As a three year old he almost certainly did not have the presence of mind or the stature/strength to open the doors, dress himself, leave the flats all by himself and then go where?

And him not being at the nursery since xmas does not add up either, i know he could have been genuinely sick but i am skeptical.

If he is geniuely sick surely there would be some dr's records, surely a child couldn't be sick for that long without a parent taking them to the dr's.

Exactly just about to mention that too.

I know dr's are covered by the oath but surely in cases where a child is missing, something could be said.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 620 ✭✭✭mosi

It's funny, the other night I watched the documentary Crocodile Tears on More4. It was about crimes where the perpetrator was someone close who made out they were distraught...the Philpotts, Tia Sharpe murder etc.
Something really stinks about this situation, none of it adds up. I may be wrong but I reckon the mother knows more than she is letting on.

Definitely no question about it, i presume this has been thought off by the police force?

Not that much of a stretch tbf. Broke off from school on the 19th December and only back for school term on the 6th January.

That's only 5 and half days of school he would have missed since xmas. Not that much.

Do nurserys operate the normal school dates. I would assume they operated like creches. Sorry for appearing ignorant but as i have already said i dont have kids.

I think they do, they would be open to accommodate working parents.

  • I think theyre being very cagey with what theyre saying or not saying. As a mother of a 2.5 year old I don't buy for a minute that he got up, put a coat, shoes & gloves on & got out of a 1st floor flat. And all without the mother & 4 other siblings hearing anything. I find it strange too that there is no sign of the mother, thinking back to other high profile missing children the parents are usually all over the news begging for help to find the child..

In fairness, I had just turned 3 when I got up, dressed myself, left the house (heavy front door which I unlocked), crossed 3 busy roads and went into the supermarket. My mother was busy feeding my baby sister and didn't hear me leave. I'd done all that in the space of about 7 minutes when she thought I was still in bed. It's not completely ridiculous is all I'm saying.

Nursery have different time schedules to a school but they do have the same term dates as a main school would.

What goes through the mind of a random punter who brings their dog with them while they search for a missing child? Are they trying to kill two birds with one stone and get the dog walked while they're out or do they think their dog will somehow sniff out the kid?

If you had an active 3 year old you would need eyes on the back of your head, some 3 year olds can be very mature for their age.

Just maybe the dog might find something that a person might not.

Couldn't give a crap what some randomer on the internet thinks.

If you don't think it's within the realms of possibility that a fairly advanced 3-year-old could leave the house on their own and go somewhere familiar (in this case, a route I did almost every day with my mum), grand. For some reason, I'd got it into my head that I wanted to buy cough sweets for my brother who was sick and knowing my mum was busy, I decided to head off on my own. I was trying to be helpful. Had no idea I was doing something really bad.

It's very strange the Dad never met his own son. I wonder if he has some thing to do with it? How come he never met his own children, or tried to meet them?
In Pakistan a son is a treasured thing, I don't believe he would let it go if his ex wife wouldn't let him have access. What was stopping him going through the courts?

Wasn't there a few cases here in Ireland of kids of Irish mum and Pakistan father who'd broken up going missing while the father had access to the kids. They were kidnapped by another family member and brought to Pakistan as the laws over there give women no rights to the child.

The women were able to visit a few times a year but couldn't legally leave the country with the kids and they hadn't a legal leg to stand on to help them. They were at Edna to try help them but he was staying out of it.

I'm totally speculating here but it could be what happened. As awful as it is, if it did, I'm nearly hoping that's what happened and not....well the worse situation.

A dog that is not trained for S&R work is far, far more likely to cause disruption on a scene and distract the trained dogs than it is to be a help. Taking your dog on a missing person's search is the act of a Walter Mitty type.

Different children have different personalities and abilities and it's not impossible for a child that age to have put on his shoes and coat and left the house. My brothers and I would all have been capable of doing that at 3, with one of them repeatedly doing similar things. Perhaps Mikaeel had done it before and that's why the family and police aren't ruling it out as a possibility? Or maybe he had been really anxious to somewhere (the park/nursery/a friend's house/etc) the day before and his mother thinks he may have attempted to make his own way there. We also don't know when his birthday is and there is a big difference between a 36 month old and a 47.5 month old.
