Police investigating the disappearance of three-year-old Mikaeel Kular have found a body and detained his mother.

The body of a young boy was found in Fife shortly before midnight, police said, and they "strongly believe this to be the body of Mikaeel".

His mother, named locally as Rosdeep Kular, 33, was detained by police.

A house, said to belong to a relative of Mikaeel's mother in Kirkcaldy, Fife, is being searched.

A police cordon has been set up around a bungalow in Dunvegan Avenue with about a dozen officers posted in the street.

An area of woodland to the rear and near the side of the property is being searched.

Some of the comments can be a bit OTT but it effects different people different ways. Posters telling others how they shouldn't react is more annoying for me, a couple of posters always seem to show up on these threads to do that, rather than just ignore threads that obviuosly annoy them.

It's not that. Some people get off on proclaiming how much more upset than everyone else they are, which is in bad taste to say the least. Acknowledging that, doesn't mean having a problem with people expressing their sorrow in a non egotistical way, which most people are doing.

    Terrible but let's a pose a theory...

    (Obviously very very ill judged)

The child dies accidentally due to some incident in the home. The mother is terrified that if she goes to the authorities, she will be put in prison and her children taken into care. She panics and thinks the best thing to do is to bury the child in the woods. But she hasn't thought through how she is going to explain the missing child.

This may not be as sinister as people think.

I get where you're coming from but to accidentally kill your child/for it to happen accidentally in the home and then to bury the child instead of notifying the authorities, and then make up a story of a missing child and waste resources searching etc. is still pretty sinister. I know what you mean about the fear for her other children but still.

Horrible to wake up to this news this morning, I have been following this for the last couple of days, I think everyone knew that something didn't add up but you always hope that your wrong. Wish this had a very different outcome. Poor baby boy, I just hope that he didn't suffer. :(

Also, why do they never post their despair at the starving children dying in the 3rd world as we speak. It seems their grief is saved for the Hollywood type cases Sky News & the Daily Mail love so much.

Yes I do think there are a number of different scenarios here. It could have been an accident, she may have panicked & tried to cover it up. She may have been suffering from something like PND & snapped, tried to cover it up. She may have been trying to cover for someone else, an older sibling maybe. Also isnt she on her own with 5 children, its very demanding to be looking after 3 year old twins plus 3 others by yourself. Who knows what happened. Time will tell (by the way Im not making excsuses for the mother, just think I will reserve judgment until we actually know what happened) Its understandable to speculate though, its such a sad event whatever the circumstances

I heard this news story about the young boy going missing during the middle of the night during week.

I read about it here too yesterday but didn't comment.

I was filled with sympathy towards the situation hoping the boy would be found well and returned to his.

My mam heard the latest news on this, this morning and started yapping over breakfast. She said the boy has been found dead and one mother detained or arrested for this and believed to be his mother.
My mam said it looks like his mother killed him.

What a bitch to do what she did. Battering the kid and dumping his body in the cold and dark and feeding the police and media lies and sympathy stories of a missing child.

Yeah, but your child dies and the only thing you can think of is yourself? Something wrong there....

    Poor fella.

I know people react differently, but...it seems strange to me.

Have to agree, surely the thought of your child lying dead in a forest would be worse than owning up to whatever it is happened.

Who says she battered the kid?

News reported that the boy didn't attend pre-school since before the Christmas. Probably and possibily to hide any bruises and/or injuiries.

Story reminds me a little of the caylee Anthony case in the US a few years back.

Please stop presenting your speculation as fact.

People who do that love the drama and I'm not so sure that they really care all that much for the victim.

She wasn't necessarily just thinking of herself, she has 4 other children who she could have been terrified would be taken into care. Besides that I'd imagine that if I ever did something that accidentally caused my son to die, there is a fairly huge chance my mind would snap. I can imagine that if his mother somehow unintentionally caused him to die, she lost her mind and became very focussed on keeping her other children.

Personally I hope that's what happened. The little boy is dead, so if his death was just a tragic accident that his mum tried to cover up then it means he wasn't terrified and in pain before he died as he would have been if he was abducted by a stranger who gets off on killing children.

I said the same thing to my better half from the start. It's very rare that a child would be abducted by a stranger from their home. (Practically unheard of)

As a father of young ones myself I hate hearing things like this. What a waste of a life.

The guy was being a spectacular dick, but I see what Temaz means: it's like an "upset contest" on these threads at times. I don't mean people simply saying it's very sad or saying it resonates with them because they have kids, but some posts are annoying and obvious... we get it: you're upset about it, as are the rest of us; you're not unique. And yes, obviously the vast majority of people can't get their heads around someone killing a little child.

Everyone reacts to these upsetting situations differently, let them at it.
I don't think anyone is trying to beat the others in their expression of sadness, they are just....well sad.

Seriously don't know why you are judging peoples' reaction. Are you the internet chief.? Let people say how they feel it's not a celebrity program. Simon Cowell's position is filled.

    Moving on RIP little man.

Ah yeah, that happens, but it's like many a thread, take a Republican thread, certain posters get off on telling us how up the RA they are. Sometimes it's better skimming past those posts or well, just don't click on threads that have a 100% chance of containing posts that will annoy you. I find ignoring those threads works best for me 100% of the time, the 5% of the time I do click in, I'll often ignore them and think it isn't worth my time or attention, the odd time I'd get sucked in and think a couple of days later, "why did I bother?" It wasn't as if there was going to be any other outcome!

Acknowledging that, doesn't mean having a problem with people expressing their sorrow in a non egotistical way, which most people are doing.

A personal crusade against people going OTT with empathy over a despicable crime isn't a problem, expressing it over and over in similar type threads isn't going to achieve anything though. The same threads will exist in a years time with a few posters going OTT in their empathetic posts. If you've the energy for it, good luck to you! :D

Whitetiger said that he/she hopes it was accidental. He/she, me or you haven't a clue what happened, but I can see where whitetiger is coming from. Either way, it's a horrible tragic end to the short life of a beautiful little boy.

I guess we can all just hope it was quick. We can also hope the professionals can study and learn from what happened here and use it to prevent future tragedies.

I am not going to read all 17 pages so sorry if I have repeated anything..

I am from Fife and know that Edinburgh to Kirkcaldy is over an hours drive.. Considering the place would have been crawling with police, once he was reported missing, I think the young lad was dead in Fife hours before the mother even called it in. I have seen a report that he was missing from school from Dec and the police had put out an all ports warning as they thought he may be taken out the country.

Its a sad story, the details of which can only get worse..

It's odd that apparently the father had little to no contact here, but many assumed it was down to him and/or his family.

True a lot of people thought that this was to do with custody. I suppose we have all heard stories of kids been taken from the UK/Ireland by parents from the Middle East never to return. I personally didnt think that was a case here but I think everyone wanted to think of any possible outcome apart from the one that came to be.

Like a lot of others here I thought initially it was a custody battle when there was no sign of a father on scene
But after the first 12 hours if it had been a custody thing & the kid had been taken to Pakistan I figured the father would have let them know to call off the search

I was hoping I was wrong but the whole thing felt weird

As the mother of a hyper slightly nuts 3 year old I couldn't imagine the child having the sense to put on a coat & shoes my lady would be out the door in her PJ's if I'd let her ;)

It's so sad.. Poor kid at 3 years of age had no life at all and to die (however it happened) and effectively be dumped in a forest for more than 24 hours.. Well to me that makes it worse :(

My lady drives me nuts sometimes and there are days I will call up to my mother and ask her to mind my little tornado for an hour just so I can get a break from her or get some work done in the house because she is a full time job
I will be honest my 3 year old drives me nuts sometimes
But would I hurt her? No, not ever, I'd take a bullet for her... Isn't that what parents are supposed to do???

It's so sad so terribly sad
Sympathy too for the cops on this one the Assistant Chief Constable was very upset last night, it was obvious for all to see, as a cop's wife my heart goes out to the cops involved particularly in the discovery & scene preservation.. Horrible job to have to do :(

The police stated early on, there was no question of a custody problem.

A teenage neighbour says she saw him on monday last. But apparently no other know sighting for some time. I guess all will come out soon enough.
She is married to a nigerian taxi driver and he fathered the first three kids.

They never divorced and he lives close bye and in regular contact. But the twins father had been well off the scene since she was pregnant.

A post mortem is under way and all will be revealed as regards how long the little pet has been dead. For operational reasons though the police might not be able to make any more information available right now. We don't know who else is involved in this unexplained death. We don't know what the mum was charged with.
