Touchpad no longer works after plugging in mouse

Wifey's laptop is about 6 months old. Never had a problem with it. During the week we plugged in a mouse for probably the first time ever. Now after removing the mouse the touchpad no longer works (and doesn't work when the mouse is still plugged in earlier).

I've updated the touchpad driver, I've made sure its still recognised in Device Manager, and is listed as working correctly. Rebooting makes no difference either. Using the dynamic icon I can see it doesn't seem to detect any touch.

Its an Acer Aspire running Windows 8.1. Anyone seen an issue like this before?

in device manager delete it then restat computer and anything with yellow

8.1 uses different drivers than 8 go to acer and download correct one don't plug in mouse while computer starts

try that first have mouse unplugged and restart

And typically, just after asking the question I figure it out myself. Found a FN+F7 combo locks and unlocks the touchpad. Maybe it locks automatically when mouse is added. Who knows. Anyway pressing it fixes the problem.
