    Hi Guys

I accidentally deleted something on my samsung mini s3 that also deleted photos that were on my phone. The ones on the card are still there. Is there any way to recover them I have been trying since before Christmas. I have "recuva" on my desktop computer but cannot see how to get it to work for my phone.

    Im not that computer savvy.

Please I know someone out there is going to crack this for me .Thanks.

Are the photos on the sdcard,
    or on the phone memory.
some phones need software installed on the pc to acess the phone,
with a pc thru a usb cable.
You can buy a pc usb sdcard reader in dealz for 2 euro,
dealz is in henry st dublin 1.
    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/faq/FAQ00046246/49046/SCH-U380PSAVZW

go to phone settings, set usb mass storage on.

PC Sees phone as external drive ,e, or f ,
or d, if theres no dvd drive on your pc.

    SEE http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP

Download kies software , android 4.2 and older versions.

kies3 is for android 4.3 and over.

ENable deep scan when using recuva .

    no software needed for card,
ie just put sd card into sdcard reader,
it might say do you wish to format card,
    click no,
    wait 3 minutes,
    Launch recuva ,

do a scan on external devices ,drives,eg ipod, card,
    in the recuva menu.
    scan for documents,images,
    after 30 minutes ,
it should give you a list of files, images on the card.
Green icon in system tray show sdcard is detected by windows .
    lower right of the desktop.

NO need to install software to use an usb sdcard reader,
    it has drivers built in.

Anything on the phone is gone. You could be lucky if you have your mob connected to your PC and on the cloud defo all images will be there.

Thanks so far lads as I said im not that computer savvy but will give the above a go. The photos are on the phone itself, card is okay but research tells me that they are there and only " hiding" in the background! Would that sound right?

recuva or another program should be able to recover the files,
as long as they are not overwritten .
dont install programs, or download photos onto the phone,
until you have the files backed up.recovered.

DID you set do not download, install updates in phone

    settings.
any updates could overwrite the phone data .
    what model is it,
does it have 500meg flash memory?

    http://download.cnet.com/Samsung-Mobile-Phone-Recovery-Pro/3000-18512_4-75962265.html
leave phone in airplane mode, to stop updates.

i think you need samsung kies software ,free download to connect a samsung phone to a pc thru usb,
and set phone to mass storage mode.
install kies program on the pc.

i,ve only used recuva to get data from phone sd card ,

    or pc hardrive.

WITHOUT kies your pc may see no data on your phone,
apart from saying device detected from usb ,
    unknown device.

The S3 Mini uses MTP instead of UMS, and won't be given a drive letter. Therefore Recuva or pretty much any file recovery software won't be able to access the data. Pretty much the only chance would be to do some horrible messing about with Cygwin and Busybox to copy the entire memory block over to a computer, mount it as a virtual partition, then run Recuva. But even at that it's a stretch.

If the OP's been doing this since before Christmas it's pretty likely that most if not all of that memory space has been overwritten.

    Doesn't work for MTP devices.

    http://geekbeat.tv/android-file-transfer-not-working-with-samsung-device-heres-how-to-fix-it/

Plug in your android device, then when you see the little USB status symbol swipe the status bar down (or access it however your Android version requires) and you should see the message “Connected as a media device. Touch for other USB options.”

when connected as a usb device
    touch for other usb options,
Stpe 3) Touch for other USB options, and then make sure Media device (MTP) is checked.

try this before you install any kies programs.

theres no point in buying a program,
unless you know it works on a mtp device.
as opposed to any android phone,

    What does this solve?
The OP never said they had any trouble accessing internal storage. The problem is running file recovery software on an MTP emulated file structure, which as I said can't be done easily.

I,ve never recovered data from a mtp devices,
just PCS, Laptops, hardisk,s and sdcards.

I presume there,s software avaidable to recover data from MTP devices.

    see ;

    http://www.alliance-rom.com/wiki/recover-deleted-files/

This should work for ANY phone with Internal Memory. We will be using a Windows 7 machine to:
back up the entire internal memory partition to your computer as a single, massive .RAW file,
convert the .RAW file output to a VHD,
mount the VHD as a disk in Disk Manager,
scan the attached VHD volume for files that have been deleted and recover them,

    The Requirements

A rooted Android phone, (try to root with a non-destructive method as this appears to protect those who must root from wiping the device data a second time),
BusyBox installed on your device,eg the phone
Cygwin installed to [c:\cygwin] with pv and util-linux from the repo. Make sure to open Cygwin once to make sure that the /bin folder is created. Also, I made a folder at [c:\cygwin\nexus] to put the exported .RAW file,
Netcat (download the ZIP file and extract nc.exe to [c:\cygwin\bin]),
ADB (make sure adb.exe is in your path),
USB Debugging enabled on your device,
VHD tool from the mighty M$. Put the VhdTool.exe file in [c:\cygwin\nexus],
Piriform Recuva or your favorite data recovery tool, (it appears Recuva only finds the more common file types like images, videos, etc. Those were the file types in which I was interested. If you are after more exotic file types perhaps you might share the software you used.)
A calm sense of peace and serenity that you will get your files back...

you,d need to root the phone first to use this recovery method.

If your deleted photos haven't overwritten by the new data, you have a chance to recover them.
But if your data is overwritten, you can't recover them.

No go if the MTP protocol is all that can be used. These phones don't support mass storage mode afaik. It's a good idea to keep your smartphone syncing photos with some online service like Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Drive etc.
