Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Central Council Meddling in Championship Formats - Yet Again !!

Will this constant changing of competition formats ever end in the GAA? More controversy from page 57 of today's annual report ....
Coiste Bainisti, on the initiative of an t-Uachtarán, made a number of recommendations on [the championship's] format that generated considerable discussion, namely that the Novelty Act be discontinued ....

It was the removal of the Novelty Act that generated most discussion, but, after viewing video clips from this year’s All-Ireland Scor Sinsear Finals, [Central] Council accepted the recommendations of Coiste Bainisti.

It is clear that the Novelty Act has become a competition in which ‘stage Irish’ humour, laced with facile and unacceptable stereotyping, predominates; several of the acts that featured in the 2013 Senior Scor final could be described as tasteless at best, sectarian or racist at worst.

While Central Council recognised the need for change, there was a hostile reaction from many active Scór participants and administrators, and unfair criticism was levelled at an t-Uachtarán, in particular.

Strong stuff, can Central Coucil make such sweeping changes without first referring this to Congress ?

Strong words. Doubt Croke Park would state it so forcefully unless they felt there was a big problem.

Anything that makes the GAA less denominational is good. Standing still is dying.

Some of the stuff I've seen in the novelty act at Scór over the years was very cringeworthy to say the absolute least. Would agree to a large extent with the quote in the OP.

the novelty act was often a bit of craic BUT whatever it had to do with promoting irish culture I'll never know.

the question time (trath na gceist) was also axed but its supposed to be resurrected as a table quiz format or the likes at some stage
