Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Please recommend a facialist/dermatologist that will extract the disgusting blackheads that live across my nose & chin.

I'm fed up going for a facial where the therapist says, indeed they do great extractions & I come out looking the exact same.

    Please give me some recommendations!

Hey, I had a Dermalogica facial a few months ago and therapist commented on all the blackheads on my nose. She recommended their Microfoliant and I picked one up. I havent found it too great, as in I still have blackheads but they arent as bad or noticeable as before. It's gentle enough to use every day, but I have other skin issues which exfoliation can make worse so only use it every other day max, which might explain the less-than brilliant results I've experienced.

I wouldn't recommend splashing out on it based on my experience to-date, BUT Im curious as to whether it will make extractions easier if I go for another facial...

I have gone through a few bottles of the microexfoliant - its great stuff but I wouldn't use it every day.

Maybe look into a facial brush like a Clarisonic - it does help but at this stage I have just accepted that my skin is prone to them.

    Its hell!

Quinoderm acne facewash is brilliant on blackheads and only about €6, it can be quite drying but is great for deep cleansing

I swear by a hot cloth cleanser.. I use it religously every night.. it's the only way I can keep them at bay..

Boots No.7 have a good one.. but the cloth and hot water are the key parts imo.. don't bother with the little flimsy cloth in the box either.. a good old fashioned flannel.. as hot as you can bare it and let it sit across your face for about 30 seconds to open the pores before using it to cleans.. and then splash cold water on your face to close the pores again..

    Works a treat for me.

I thought very hot water was bad for the skin as it can burst the capillaries leaving you with thread veins on your face?

Somebody better tell all the beauty salons that are using steam for facials :o

I looked it up because I thought it might be something id wrongly believed to be true but I was right using water that is too hot can burst capillaries.

Steam may not be the same because the particles cool so quickly. "Professionals advise getting about 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 centimeters) from the water. This is not only to protect you from burns but to also guard you from broken capillaries that can occur when you're exposed to too much heat" Thats from here http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/scalp-care/problems/at-a-glance-face-steaming.htm

Do you use any other Dermalogica products to compliment the Microfoliant? Alone it's great, it's gentle as you said, but I'd like to know why you don't use it everyday? Exfoliation is only really a once a week thing with harsher products so I get why you might be wary. Anyway my advice would be to have another facial in a reputable salon using Dermalogica products, tell them you want rid of the blackheads, explain you were unhappy before, they can use products like Scaling Fluid which will really help with extraction, then the Post Extraction Solution which will calm the skin and help prevent further congestion. These products are only available in the professional range, however your therapist can easily provide you with samples of products suited to your condition. I hope this helps, I've been using Dermalogica for years and not only do i love working with it, I believe in it enough to use it on my own skin every day!

cool, I was thinking of going back now that I've been using it a while - I'll bear your advice in mind, thanks! Exfoliation is bad for my skin condition, I've been advised against it by different therapists, and the Dermalogica facialist advised me to use that product every other day max. My main prob is on my nose, so I could try it just there everyday for the next while

Youve reminded me that I have a few samples stashed away from my last facial - I've no idea what they are but will dig them out later :) I'm going to the US next week - are there any products only available there that I can get?

Edit - should have mentioned that I have rosacea. Am using an antibiotic at the mo as well as La Roche Posay cleanser and moisturiser which all help.

Did they do a skin map? The Ultracalming range has mostly positive reviews: http://reviews.dermalogica.com/1012/132/dermalogica-ultracalming-treatment-kit-reviews/reviews.html

Search online for therapists near you who have Dermalogica Expert status, I'm currently working my way up!
I'm sure about the line difference in the US but it might be worth enquiring on the irish website :)

    Best of luck!!
