Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Advice on retro fit heat pump project.

    Hi guys.

Have already received solid advice from a friend on this, and looking to see if I can add to that and see if my circumstances sound familiar to any one so I can get some insight into air source heat pump retro fit projects.

    Spec:
04 timber frame, two storey, 6 inch fibre glass in walls, 8 inch blown cellulose in ceiling of 2nd story.
Minimal air leaks, (although I have a few to see to that I know of.

Looking to replace air source heat pump and have the following set up.

    Existing:
    800 litre buffer tank.
    Night rate meter for esb.
    UFH on ground floor,
    Oversized rads on first floor,
Back up is external oil burner.
    2650ft.

    Proposed:
    Air Source heat pump,
    And, user friendly controller.
(Possibility of exchanging buffer, but looking for a good reason to do it and/or good reason to keep it).

Open to suggestion for replacement source, so far asked to consider air source hp, ground loop, turbine and/or solar pv cells in conjunction with existing buffer.

Like the sound of the ground loop efficiency, but scared off by cost.
Like the sound or air source for the less cost of install (apparently), and the plug and play value.

Some air source suppliers are recommending replacing my big buffer tank with smaller one with a new heat pump? Some are not.

I'm told the problem with existing buffer is rads on ff it's not good combination with UFH on gf from the one tank (both from bottom of buffer).

    So open to suggestion.

If any one has experience with heating a home that has UFH on gf and Rads on ff I would appreciate knowing of any efficient ways to do this.

Primary reason for seeking new heat pump is that original one needs gas refill now, has recent solenoid valve problem, is apparently under sized in the first place(unknown to me at the time, so was always inefficient), and has a controller that's as programmable as me granny's toaster.

Thank you for any help and recommendations that you can offer on suppliers and on manufacturers.

    Stone mad lad.
