    The ESB are being Shafted.
(not sure this is the correct thread for this, but it does concern the ESB).
They are now putting in 2.5 million Smart Meters; and these can monitor all electricity in the home; and times it is on etc. (most probably to eventually increase payment charges, on the pretext that you are using electricity when most people are using electricity).
I believe the total cost of putting in these smart meters is c. E4 billion?
But - and I find this sinister; a Consortium including Granahan McCourt are involved (this McCourt person is connected to Warren Buffet); there will be 40 sub-contractors involved; among them Kelly Group, KN Group (which is Denis O'Brien's Actavo, formerly of Sierra [the IW radio frequency meters] and Siteserv).
ESB don't have a prayer. (will this lead to a u.s. company owning the electricity here in the future).
ESB themselves are relying on "2g, like a mobile 'phone", to collect your readings, (although I think that the meters can send your information to them every 30 mins.?).

This Govt. could not have allowed this, without the nod (and wink) of Fianna Fail. Both of this lot are so weird.
These smart meters are an invasion of privacy? (the IW meters and their sensors can account for actual personal abdominable emissions).

There is a govt.agency who oversee this: the CRU, Commission for Regulation of Utilities.
But this seems so ineffectual; and seem to oversee only; charges, tariffs, etc..

all this about "90mbps";- is really the Country being sold off.... and at 90mbps.

I have contacted Vodafone and they said siro is not available in my estate yet. Would I get a better result if I contacted a different siro supplier such as ESB?

Most certainly the wrong thread. Because while SIRO is using ESB networks infrastructure to build their access network ... what you are on about has absolutely nothing to do with this fibre access network. Nor does the NBP and Granaham McCourt have anything to do with SIRO.

    thank you.

btw, this SIRO sounds familiar (i'm not even remotely a technical person) they may be an international company.
you say, .... SIRO is using [the] ESB network .... to build.....their access network.
So maybe, just this, does validate how vital the ESB are.

The ESB are almost sometimes v.difficult to contact.
If ESB was to be now sold to a Consortium, it might be near impossible to deal with.

    thank you.

You are posting a thread about SIRO. Which is an irish company.

If you do not know, who or what SIRO is, then you should not post here.

    Simples !

Hi guys when I put my address into the vodafone site it says I can get two products.

    100Mbps/20Mbps and 1000Mbps/200Mbps.

The 100/20 is plenty fast for me, 4k Netflix will be max speed I need it for.

My question is, is the 100/20 actually a Siro connection or is it the regular fiber to the cabinet?

    Its labelled "Simply Broadband Fibre"

    100/20 is FTTC/VDSL .. not SIRO.

No. They all check the Siro list to get the same result.

If your neighbours have it but you don’t then you may be in the same situation as me. I am in a semi-d and my electrical connection is looped. This means I share a hard ESB connection with my neighbour (obviously different meters). Therefore my connected neighbour either side can get Siro and the Siro website confirms this but I cannot unless my neighbour with the looped connection also gets it.

Use the mobile app auto address to get your neighbours Eircode and enter that on the Vodafone website. If they can and you cannot get Siro then your connection is the same as mine and is looped. All the even numbers on my street can get Siro but none of the uneven numbers without their direct connection getting it first.

From a pedantic point of view I would dispute the numbers Siro is quoting for possible connections for plenty of housing estates.

Is there no other option then besides the 1000mb package with Siro from Vodafone?

You would need to talk to Vodafone about that. Other SIRO partners may give you other options.

Vodafone is not your only choice. Nor are they the best choice. They just want volume.

There seems to be a bit of an arms race going on between Eir and SIRO in Dublin 5 at the moment. Eir pulled fibres down through our housing estate about a month ago and have been running it up the telegraph poles for FTTH, then I got an email from SIRO yesterday to say their FTTH is nearly available to my home and I can see they’ve got loops of fibre on the electricity poles.

Pretty epic to have the choice, but seems like a shame to have two networks available in my estate when so many have none at all!

And a lot of Dublin 5 would also have Virgin as an option also.

this SIRO.ie (joint company of ESB and Vodafone) might be okay. But the FTTHCouncil.eu might be a tad misleading, as really it is just individual companies themselves, who may liaise, (or who might try to agree pricing?). a bit like a huge shoal of cod or herrings.

The FTTHCouncil.eu seems to be just an: Organisation of Industries (in the e.u.?) in the broadband industry - and it is not connected to the E.U. intrinsically.

Anyhow, I just reckon that the ESB (and others') putting in of 500k Smart Meters now, and 500k smart meters in each of the years, 2020 to 2040; far more dubious.
And, if SIRO are involved in the putting in of these smart meters; that would be Vodafone, who are (only) a telecoms company, being involved; in internet broadband and in electricity.

whoops, sri: 2020 to 2023, 500k per year.

Does anyone know roughly speaking which Dublin postal codes are getting the Eir/Siro fibre build?

It doesn't have have anything to do with the EU to have a .eu domain name.

SIRO have nothing whatsoever to do with ESB's smart metering project, which in turn (referring to your earlier post) has nothing whatsoever to do with 2G mobile connectivity.

Switched to sky, I'm getting 500mbs beside the router and about 20 upstairs. The Vodafone router I had with fibre I had 50 all around the house. I don't have solid walls. Is the router the issue.

It's the smart meters fault.... What would you think yourself?

500mb over wifi is very good. Have you done a test using a wired connection and if so what speeds are you getting? Also what pings are you getting?

I separated the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz. It looks like it was switching between both when i went any bit of distance away from the router.

Dear Vodafone on May of this year
You contacted me about moving to your
    New Siro Fibre Broadband
Promising me speeds of up to
    1GB

A team of workers came and dug a big hole at the side of my house
One evening filled it in with concrete
And told me they could not find my ESB
    Cable
A few weeks later you called me again
And told me you had dug the whole in the incorrect place
And that a team of men would call again
    And dig another hole

A few days later the workers called and dug
Another hole in my concrete path
    Again in the wrong place
A third and final hole was dug at the back of my house and the ESB cable was found
The fibre optic cable was pulled up and stuck to the wall
A number of weeks after that two technicians came and installed my fibre optic broadband

I lost my home telephone number
    064 6639*** of 21 years
Which no one told me about
The internet worked well for a few weeks on
    Initial speeds of 800mbps
    After One month
    it started to go downhill
    Speeds were down to 100mbps

Over the past three weeks of December 2019
Speeds were down to 15 mbps

    Nothing works iPads Netflix
Computers nothing for my whole family
    You where contacted on 1907

With Waiting times on every occasions of up to 1 hour
    And the connection was tested

Last Sunday the 8th of December 2019
Your technician spent 1 hour testing the connection Again
with me plugging cables in and out of my computer doing speed tests

He concluded my router was faulty
And a new one would arrive on Tuesday
He took the serial number of the faulty one
And told me to be ready to box up the old one.

By Wednesday there was still no sign of a router
I called you again waiting 50 mins
To be told my new router had been rejected.

With out as much as text email phone call from you
You stated you would have to test the connection again
And You would call me this morning 12/12/2019 at
    11am

I took the morning off work
Christmas is coming my children are receiving iPads PlayStation all internet dependent products

I now have no home phone
And Zero internet the router has stopped
    Completely

No one called no text email nothing
I again called you waiting 40 mins

I was told a new router would be sent
I asked to speak to a supervisor
    None available
I asked for a tracking number
    None available
I was told a supervisor would call me
    No one called
I was told I would be emailed a tracking number all lies
    I have nothing

I’m 50 years of age this has been the worst
    Consumer experience of my life
I find your treatment of me and my family

I will be informing everyone of your

    Thursday 12/12/19
After 3 requests denied to speak to the supervisor
    Over the past week
I have asked to open up a
    Customer complaint number
(The only way to lodge a complaint)

I have been told I will be contacted in
    24hrs
    Still no contact
I have contacted the courier company
    K&N
    Myself and have been told
I will receive my router next week
    Some time

“And to make sure I have the old router and
Somebody over 18 to sign for it on the day”

My family still has zero internet or a
    Landline telephone
No contact from Siro or Vodafone
We still do not know if the router is
The problem and nobody at Siro Vodafone
    Ireland Cares

On Monday 16th I again had to make 3 phone calls to K&N to receive my new router
Which resulted in me receiving this at 18:20
After I threatened them that my time and patience was up

    Please Note
During this time i never received any
Phone call text message or email
From Vodafone whom I have been with for
    Over 4 years.

    Thursday 19th December

    New router made no difference
I was told technical support would contact me Thursday 4pm
    No phone call message nothing
    I contacted them at 8pm
    When the speed from there
    1GB server drops to 15mbps

They tested the connection it took one hour
Of plugging in/out cables to there router
Doing various speed tests on a laptop
    And an iPhone X

Vodafone finally admitted that I was experiencing slow speeds after a weeks of
    Testing
And they will now send out a technician team
    As usual they could not
    Say when,
“ we will be in touch”
Looks like no internet for my family for
    Xmas
My children’s Xmas toys will be of no use on

The promotion ends 31.12. and the last installation dates this year were gone before Christmas. Additional SIRO freezes their network over Christmas and only does repairs between Christmas and new years.

But our standard Gigabit pricing is still extremely competitive at 59 EUR/month. And with an 18 month contract, you still get free installation and the router for free. Just like with the promo.

Well I’ve just quickly looked at Vodafone offer and seems to be roughly €280 saving over the 18 months compared to Airwire.
Am I missing anything with Vodafone’s offer? I haven’t checked Digiweb or Sky yet.

Am I missing anything with Vodafone’s offer? I haven’t checked Digiweb or Sky yet.

    If compare like for like:

    Vodafone over 18 months on the Gigabit pricing: 6 x 25 + 6 x 60 + 6 x 80 = 990.
    Airwire: 18 x 59 = 1062.
    (reference: https://n.vodafone.ie/shop/broadband/gigabit-broadband.html and https://n.vodafone.ie/content/dam/gowingmyself/pdfs/broadband-home-phone-and-tv-tariffs.pdf )

    Difference 72 EUR.

Vodafone has a 1 TB FUP. Airwire has no limit whatsoever.

( https://n.vodafone.ie/terms/fixed.html - Gigabit Broadband ) ... looks like they actually have removed the exact limit, but they still refer to fair usage policy.

    On 150 Mbit/s:

    Vodafone 18 months: 750 EUR
    Airwire 18 months: 810 EUR

    Difference 60 EUR.

Not sure, how you came to the 280 EUR in saving.
