Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hodgson and Del Bosque to be the highest profile managerial casalties after this World Cup? Although I reckon Joachim Loew could go aswell if Germany dont win it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Yeah I think Loew will be sacked or resign unless the Germans triumph. This is his third tournament in sole charge I believe(assistant to Klinsmann beforehand)?

    That's not JH's dad. It's Jon Voight

Best world cup ever continues to deliver.

Italy and Uruguay now face each other in a winner takes all match, if they draw it goes down to goal difference and Italy would go through.

    I'm torn.

On the one hand, I want Suarez to get a rest, on the other, watching Italy play football makes me feel physically sick.

The top half of the draw is shaping up now for round 2. Round 2 could be Colombia vs Italy, Winners play Brazil vs Chile, with winners of Costa Rica vs Ivory Coast playing the winners of Holland and Mexico. Might be worth a punt on the Dutch.

Good to see goal line tech, but a goal line official is still needed IMO.
The Costa Rica clear peno call today and in the France game, the Swiss deserved a clear corner from a fingertips save. I'm sure others can add more to the list that a goal line official would have caught.

A bunch more fallible officials probably won't solve the problem.

Give the 4th official a screen and a 10 second window after the ref gives him a shout - either he tells the ref what he thinks in 10 seconds (penalty/not red/not) or the ref sticks to his decision.

BBC have no live games tomorrow, just highlight show in the night.

May not be the best World Cup ever yet, only halfway through I think in terms of matches and the nothing-at-stake matches are still to be played and the 0-0 knockouts for 120 minutes with penalties too..

    :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,205 ✭✭✭Lucas Hood

Apparently Holland are going to play Dirk Kuyt at left back today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,516 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

When ITV have it one will go on ITV 1 and other on ITV 4.

Fcuktards in UPC will doubtless block the ITV4 games.

FIFA look into German fans blacking up for Ghana game!

    http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jun/22/fifa-investigate-germany-fans-black-make-up-world-cup-2014
Fifa has promised its disciplinary committee will investigate photographs that show several German fans attended their team’s match against Ghana wearing black make-up.

Pictures circulated on social media of smiling Germany fans with blacked up faces wearing T-shirts on which they had felt tipped the names of their opponents. A Fifa spokeswoman said that any evidence of discrimination would be considered by its disciplinary committee under what she called its zero tolerance rules.

Really happy with the amount of Goals being scored aswell.
I would love some comparison from this tournament to 2010, I have a feeling there has **** load more scored.

So far in 2014 there have been 2.94 goals per game.
Overall in 2010 there were 2.24 goals per game.

Averging 2.9 goals a game compared to 2.3 goals a game in 2010.

    Interesting...

Actual Playing Time : 55.3 AVERAGE MINUTES PER MATCH
    2010 AVERAGE : 69.8

Proof that the free kick foam slows down the play too much?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,152 ✭✭✭✭KERSPLAT!

Or players are lying on the ground "injured" a lot more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

For people who don't venture into the Man Utd thread (where I shamelessly stole this from).

Link showing the number of goals scored per league and per club...

I think the heat and player lying(injured) down alot in the last 20 mins of a game have more to do with that than the free kick foam.

ITV are the same. I'd rather watch Croatia-Mexio on the telly myself.

Croatia - Mexico is on ITV 4. If we can get it sure.

Pity RTE don't have a red button option, give people the choice of what game they want to watch

Pretty sure UPC block ITV4 when anything resembling football is on :(

only when it clashes with live (normally Europa football) on Setanta

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,787 ✭✭✭Benimar

I know why RTE do it (viewing figures) but Croatia v Mexico is the game to be showing. Cameroon are out and only a combination of results can knock out Brazil. Croatia v Mexico is essentially an eliminator.

Hopefully they don't do the same tomorrow and show England but I fear they will.
