FSW Question?

    Hi all,

I went through the questionnaire online and got a big fat "no, you're not coming to Canada".

I went through the Quebec questionnaire, and I speak French, not perfectly, but studied it to 3rd level, and have enough to get by with (and pull French speaking ladies with :) ) and I got a "Yep, you can come to Quebec."

While they are general questionnaires, and the fine points might be different, are they fairly spot on?

I don't have any skills that a Canadian wouldn't have for example, apart from speaking Italian and being Irish. Is there anywhere else I can go to find out some more about the FSW?

By any chance are you between 18-35 years old? If you are you can apply for an IEC visa due to be released at day now.
Also Quebec works separate to the rest of Canada when assessing eligibility for the FSW program. Maybe check the rest of Canada?

You could also look into getting a LMO visa. If you can get a job in Canada the employer would apply for one of these on your behalf and they would have to prove that they could not get a Canadian person to fulfill the job/role. If you decide to change job you would need a new employer to agree to continue to sponsor you.

    Best of luck.

Would it be worth applying for jobs in Canada from Ireland, or am I wasting my time?

Anyone any experiences of this? How long it takes? Cost?

    Whats your occupation?

If you can get over on an LMO and spend a year in your job you can apply for CEC

A company would have to demonstrate a need to hire a foreign worker

    http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/employers/lmo-basics.asp

Once the LMo is in place you can enter canada as a TFW

Then get ready to apply for your CEC after a year

I have heard of lots of people being hired from Ireland, mostly tradies though

I'm not a tradie, so wouldn't have any skills as such that a Canadian wouldn't have. Journalism/Technical Writing/Online Journalism/SEO would be my background.

Cheers for the links. I'll look into them.

Is it worth applying for jobs from Ireland or am I wasting my time without a visa?

    A wee update:

    http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp?expand=jobs#jobs

1123 - Professional occupations in advertising, marketing and public relations

I am pretty sure I could definitely fall in under that category.

There is then a sh*tload of stuff to fill out!

    http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/skilled.asp

I might wait until I have all my college stuff handed in, and until I've been offered a job elsewhere won't be ruling Canada out.

I think I might head to one of the jobs fairs coming up after the summer in Ireland.

My brother went to the one they had earlier in the year and said it wasn't worth the tenner in. Said it was pretty much all for tradespeople / nurses etc.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. They seem to be geared towards trades etc
