    Need a location and recommendation for a hotel for a stay Tuesday to saturday at the end of a long trip.

    Doing the usual sights and have a hire car. Want somewhere nice but not too expensive for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Going south on Sat to Santa Barbara.

    Stayed before in Daly City in an apartment as we were sight seeing all day but don't know if that is the location for us this time.

    Looking at Hotels.com and prices are steep but location is unknown as well as what you are getting. I know San Fran is not cheap but don't want a disaster either!

    Thanks

    Yes its not cheap.

    I stayed in Hotel Boheme, a little friendly boutique place on Columbus Ave in North Beach.

    VERY central, walking distance to Wharf and opposite to Union Sq. Columbus Ave is also one of the few streets that isnt hilly.

    Try Tripadvisor.com

    Excellent for user reviews of hotels.

    Going down highway one to Santa Barbara right?

    for last minute try

    http://www.hotwire.com/index.jsp

    private people places

    https://www.airbnb.com/

    with a car take all your stuff out as they break car windows, even in the boot they can see its a rental, there also draconian towaway laws

    yellow zone white zone green zone, red zone, bus stops will be towed, metters run 7 days a week, they also tow mostly down town 3pm-6pm

    and 7am -9am mostly around hotels read the signs there is also street cleaning but they will just give you a ticket, residential area you can park 2 hours, hotels charge $30 to park, you can get city garages,

    what dates are coming? There are a number of conferences etc here between now and August, which can push up hotel prices.

    You could also try hotels in Berkeley or Oakland. It would be close to the BART (15 minutes to downtown) and probably a bit cheaper than the city. We stayed over at a hotel in Berkeley for a wedding and it was 110 a night.
