Looks like the UK traffic was the saving grace.

Strange to see such growth in that market of all markets, with the Brexit currency slump having a large effect.

Also worth noting that Shannon-London Heathrow was the only Ireland-LHR sector to grow in jan

Could this be New York passengers traveling via Heathrow?

LH984/5 on the 19th of May has just been changed to an A320. A good sign and hopefully more to come

Niall Collins wants Government action on Shannon Airport numbers

    https://www.limerickleader.ie/news/home/310339/limerick-td-says-government-must-note-decline-in-shannon-airport-numbers.html

Not sure exactly what he expects them to do. Subsidise new routes?

Eireagle.com coach service from Limerick to Dublin Airport to accept free travel pass

    Not exactly helpful.

I do have some sympathy for SNNs situation but I think the airport needs to put huge effort into bucket and spade routes. Like it or not, its more less all regional airports bread and butter. Its the main driver of growth at Cork, Belfast and Kncok so Shannon shouldn't be any different.

During the bus Éireann strikes in April 2017 I needed to get to the airport, turns out JJ Kavanagh has stopped so I messaged the airport and I was told they got rid of their private bus operator licence (or something along the lines of it)

Aircraft leasing firm to create 300 jobs at Limerick's Gardens International site (Limerick Leader)

THE first tenant in the €18m Gardens International office development in Limerick is to be Danish firm Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC) in a move which could see 300 new jobs.

The world’s largest regional aircraft leasing company is to take the third, fourth and fifth floor of the Henry Street development, in doing so, ramping its workforce up to an estimated 350 roles, the Limerick Leader has established.

It has 400 aircraft, valued at over $5.3bn.

From the Shannon Airport facebook page
    --
Summer in swing as bumper season takes flight at Shannon

The summer is officially underway and was duly reflected at Shannon Airport as its busiest weekend of the year so far kicked-off what will be its best season in a decade.

With almost 150 weekly departures, Shannon’s expanded summer schedule for 2018 includes new transatlantic, European and UK services and is set to deliver more passengers at the airport since it separated as an independent.

This weekend alone saw Delta Air Lines recommence its daily JFK service and with Air Canada to kick off its new Toronto service in four weeks’ time, Shannon will have its busiest transatlantic schedule for 17 years, with eight services operated to seven destinations.

With passenger numbers already up by 5% in the first quarter, the gains are being felt across all markets. The UK, also up in the first quarter, is showing its resilience despite Brexit concerns and is set to grow further as Ryanair launches Liverpool and Bristol services, as well as increase its Manchester frequencies, later this month.

The big new addition this year on European services is Barcelona-Reus – the twice weekly service bringing passengers into a region that not alone offers the excitement of Europe’s third most visited city, Bareclona, but also the stunning Costa Dorada region, including Salou and Cambrils, as well as one of the continent’s top theme parks, Port Aventura.

Said Shannon Airport Managing Director Andrew Murphy: “The May Bank Holiday weekend is one we look forward to for different reasons than most people as it really signals the start of the summer holiday season, our busiest time of the year. This year it’s going to be the busiest in a decade thanks to the additional services.
“We’ve worked very hard to get these new services. It’s a priority for us to enable people use Shannon to get to all these destinations rather than having to travel long distances for their flights.

“What we need now is to spread the word about these services. The more Shannon services are supported, the more services we get.”

The UK Airport Provisional Statistics for February are updated and March are out.

    450381.png

I presume the storm in the first weekend of March had some bearings on the drop of passengers for the month.

March shows an LF of 69%, taking into account the cancellations. Not a particularly bad load at all, and one must remember that the breakeven LF on an ATR isn't as high as jet aircraft (eg 737-8, A320)
