New cafe/bar opened in Arrivals this morning. Really brightens up the area.

Are there any plans for the old Linestone Restaurant on the 1st floor before security?

I haven’t heard anything. People going from check-in to departures will have to pass the new place due to the direction the escalators are going in.

I’d imagine that played a part in the location of the new cafe.

Cargo jet carrying horses makes emergency landing in Shannon (Irish Examiner)

A cargo jet carrying consignment of horses has made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport after the crew reported a possible fire on board.

Martinair flight 7342 was travelling from Miami in the US to Amsterdam in Holland at the time. There were six crew on board.

It’s understood there were about 50 horses on board the KLM Cargo Boeing 747-400 freighter which was operating on behalf of Martinair.

Two weeks ago a Condor flight diverted to Shannon while routing from Dominican Republic to Frankfurt for a fuel stop and crew change.

Competition: Shannon Free Zone (Architects Journal)

Shannon Commercial Properties is recruiting a design team for three new commercial buildings

The team chosen for the estimated £600,000 contract will draw up plans for three flexible business premises on a 5ha plot within the Shannon Free Zone industrial park next to Shannon Airport.

The project will deliver a new 5,600m² building capable of being sub-divided into three 1,850m² units along with a separate 3,065m² building in the first phase. The second phase includes an additional 3,700m² building capable of being divided into two 1,850m² blocks.

In its brief, Shannon Commercial Enterprises, which is the property wing of Shannon Airport, says its strategy ‘is to design and gain planning approval for both the phase 1 and phase 2 developments as outlined below with associated provision for car parking and ancillary site development works as well construction procurement and management for the phase 1 buildings only, along with the provision of a full-time resident engineer for the construction period.’

It adds that the buildings will be ‘multifunctioning and adaptable to modern business uses (eg advanced technology, manufacturing, distribution, aviation)’.

Shannon Airport is the third busiest airport in Ireland and features the country’s longest runway – capable of landing the Space Shuttle. The Shannon Free Zone industrial park was created on land neighbouring the airport in the late 1950s.

The 265ha industrial estate was recently remasterplanned by RKD Architects, and features a mix of low-rise industrial units and modern office blocks. Many of the older units dating from the 1950s and 1960s are now no longer fit for purpose and largely unused.

The deadline for applications is midday, 1 June.

It is certainly true that a good few units in the free zone are past their sell-by date. It's always been somewhat fascinating in there, the way the streets are aligned, the age of some of the buildings. Another thing I've noted is some of the original Mercury street lamps fitted when the place was built are still in situ, nearly impossible to find around Ireland at this stage.

Positive to see new developments, a thriving industrial estate will help to a achieve a thriving airport!

New aviation training campus lands in Shannon (Limerick Post)

Lufthansa Technik Shannon Ltd, formerly known as Shannon Aerospace, has made the investment in training facilities as the company moves to support the future development and growth of the aircraft maintenance business in Shannon.

The multi-million euro investment was also made to support the growth in international aircraft maintenance training business that Lufthansa Technik is experiencing at its Shannon operation.

Specialising in the provision of airframe heavy maintenance services to the world’s leading airlines and leasing companies, Lufthansa Technik Shannon Ltd holds both European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 145 approval.

With two maintenance hangars at Shannon Airport, the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company provides services to over 50 airlines and employs a workforce of more than 500.

The new training school facility will be officially opened on Monday, May 14, by Minister of State Pat Breen.

Keep in mind that systems tend to lag. However, such a number wouldn't be particularly surprising, generally inagural flights, unless very famed, are never really well filled.

I wouldn’t be that worried with the first few flights I remember the Reus was only 30 on the first flight but full everyday now, how do you access these seat maps?

    Dummy bookings

29 outbound on LPL last night.

As the other poster said, REU is close to full for every flight which is a good thing.

I just don't see that particular Liverpool flight ever being busy outbound except when Liverpool, Everton or the Manchester clubs are playing on a Sunday afternoon.
