Application lodged for €40 million development at Trump’s Doonbeg golf course (Irish Times)

The new plan includes 53 holiday homes, a ballroom/function room, a leisure centre and a new restaurant.

Putting a value of €40million on the planned development, Mr Russell said the resort is enjoying its “best year so far since the resort commenced full operations back in 2006”.

He said “economic growth has led to a strong domestic market but the USA business has been terrific this year” adding that the resort being on the Wild Atlantic Way has also added to business.

Trump Doonbeg is the 16th in the Trump International portfolio and the hotel accommodates 45,000 guests each year with over 50 per cent coming from North America.

This follows on nicely from the recent refurbishments at Dromoland Castle and Adare Manor, thus making three top golf courses very attractive for the North American market within close vicinity to the airport.

Minister Breen officially opens new DHL Express facility in Shannon (Irish Tech News)

DHL Express, officially opened its new purpose-built facility today near Shannon Airport. Minister of State for Trade, Employment, Business, EU Digital Single Market and Data Protection, Mr. Pat Breen TD officiated at the opening of the premises in Western Business Park, Shannon. The new facility, which represents an investment of over €4.5 million, will service DHL Express customers across Clare, Galway, Limerick, Tipperary and Kerry.

The purpose-built facility is strategically located adjacent to Shannon Airport and close to the national road network. Servicing exporting and importing companies across the Shannon and Midwest region, shipments for delivery to and from the more than 220 countries serviced by DHL are consolidated on airline containers for direct connection to DHL’s Boeing 757 charter flight which operates to and from Shannon Airport on a daily basis.

Bernard McCarthy, Managing Director of DHL Express in Ireland said at today’s official opening, “The completion of this new facility is a significant investment for DHL Express in Ireland. We have been operating in Shannon since 1979 and today’s opening is testament to our commitment to the region. I am also delighted to confirm today that in addition to the new facility, we have recently upgraded the aircraft we operate into Shannon and since the beginning of this week we are now operating a Boeing 757 freighter – upgraded from a Boeing 737. In simple terms this increases our daily carrying capacity on each import and export flight from just over 20 tonnes to over 30 tonnes – so a 50% increase in capacity to support the import and export needs of our customers in the region.”

EI must be the most unreliable transatlantic airline operating from SNN.

I would be very reluctant to book a US flight with them at this stage with all the cancellations and subsequent hassle they create for for their customers.

This practice has been going on for the best part of 3 years. Back in March 16 SNN-BOS was cancelled for a number of days, in OCT16 20 return flights were cancelled in the space of 2 weeks. There have been plenty more cancellations in between on a smaller scale

Aer Lingus should really pull that service at this stage. Treating their transatlantic customers very poorly at Shannon on a very regular basis now.

Will the Shannon to North America commuters benefit from these plans too or will Aer Lingus continue to see their aircraft at Shannon as a reserve back up to meet breakdowns on the Dublin network.

If Ryanair treated their customers like this, there would a sh*t storm in the media.
Aer Lingus plans to almost double its transatlantic fleet to 30 aircraft over next five years (Independent)

Aer Lingus thinks it can almost double its transatlantic fleet from 17 to 30 aircraft over next five years, as its positioned to be the number one ‘value’ airline linking Europe and North America.

The plan was unveiled at an investor day for Aer Lingus owner IAG, which also owns BA and low cost long haul brand Level. For Aer Lingus, the plan means new direct and connecting travel options centred on Dublin.

The Irish airline currently has a transatlantic seat capacity of 2.8 million per annum. The increase in aircraft would see this grow to 4.7 million seats.

If it’s been going on since Shannon got its indipendence I wonder does the DAA have a hand in this? Does anyone know if this is common practice in other airlines/ airports?

Construction will begin on the new hangar in the next 2 weeks.

Five weeks on, has construction on the new hangar finally started?

In May, Shannon Commercial Properties confirmed it was seeking to appoint a new contractor to complete its new office block after the High Court had appointed an interim examiner to Kildare based building contractors the Sammon Group.

    Is this building now finished?

How is the new drive-thru Starbucks taking off in the Shannon Free Zone and the new JJ Ruddle’s Bar & Restaurant at the airport?

I believe they've started preliminary work for the hangar.
The office block is nearly complete, Starbucks seems to be constantly busy when I drive past.

Ruddles is very busy when I pass it during the day, it will of course quieten down now for the winter with less flights.

JJ Ruddles Restaurant & Bar (Tess Stanford)

The most challenging factor in the design process was to create a space that could transform throughout the day seamlessly from a morning and daytime café into a destination evening restaurant & bar, operational hours being 5am to 11pm. In addition to this, both the client and the Airport were keen to attract clientele from outside the airport in the nearing town and businesses from the Shannon Free Zone Industrial estate. In effect, create a destination restaurant and in doing so drive even more foot-fall through the Airport.

US-bound flight makes unscheduled landing in Shannon (Clare Herald)

Delta Air Lines flight DL-35 was travelling from Paris to Seattle in the US at the time.

The Boeing 767-300 jet was routing overhead the Irish Sea when the crew advised air traffic controllers that they required to divert reporting a “technical issue” (Water System).

Does that strike anyone else as odd? Can’t imagine I’d ever want to go for an evening meal in an airport arrivals. :pac:

It was really good. I think the students from the college did their training there. If you could get in there, it was a treat.
