Now it's been announced. Lauda, Wednesdays and Saturdays, running from late March to October.

    https://www.shannonairport.ie/passengers/news-media/latest-news/2019/new-vienna-service-announced-for-shannon-airport/

Did they have to get a photo op in front of the ex Air Berlin with Lauda Motion titles that's been returned to the lessor though?

FR had a route to Beauvais and moved it to KIR. I don't thing that passenger loads was the reason for that.

No they moved Berlin, Beauvais was cut.

Neither Kerry or Beauvais is a base, so that would be virtually impossible to operate.

    .

You are correct. I got that mixed up. I still don't thing that load factors were the reason they pulled SNN - BVA though (or moved Berlin).

Eh, the yield was muck for BVA, did you see the fares flights were sold at?

There was a route to CDG brought in when EI pulled the LHR route. I'm pretty sure it was only pulled after EI reinstated the LHR route.

It was cityjet, on a small plane, with stupidly priced tickets. They pulled in 2009.

This is a good start, a nice destination with only Dublin for competition.

Any idea how much this will have cost them ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,468 ✭✭✭highlydebased

Hop would be an ideal carrier for CDG but the challenge is they fly from Cork currently

Transavia France another option for Orly but they're not in expansion mode at all

Now it's been announced. Lauda, Wednesdays and Saturdays, running from late March to October.

Great to have any announcement to be fair. But... and dont give out to me!!

The schedule does not really fit with a long weekend city break.

Also Vienna is a prime destination for xmas markets..hopefully the initial schedule will be extended beyond October 2020

It's a pity the service ends in Oct as it's one of the best Christmas markets. Not a bad destination and easy to get to Prague from Vienna too. Hopefully the airport ups their game in promoting this new route. Supporters of the airport too could do a small bit too and share the news on their social media. As it not traditional ryanair/air lingus it's easy for people to forget the service is there

Honestly don't have much of a problem with this. Anything that offers more choice is to be welcomed.

Have lauda had charters on this route in recent years, I think they might and the route is relatively proven

The UK Airport Provisional Statistics for August are out.

September is not looking better . . .

Separate figures from the Central Statistics Office show fewer tourists from Britain have been travelling to the Republic, a shift that is linked the current Brexit-related weakness in sterling, which has dented their spending power (Irish Times).

Both Rome and Santander are showing up as destinations from Shannon on Lauda’s website. Future Ryanair routes?

Theyve been on Ryanair site too for years. The santander flight was a rugby charter last year I believe

Heard Shannon advertised on Kildare FM today, they do seem to be targeting customers outside regular catchment area

So did Shannon benefit from the budget to fund new routes?

We’ll know more Wednesday if the rumor is true..

So did Shannon benefit from the budget to fund new routes?

Would guarantee it's referring to VIE.

    _____

As for the two rumoured EI routes yes EI do well on ORK-BCN but adding SNN-CDG again combined with AF doubting of freq at ORK.

EI will struggle and if funded by this fund will immediately drop unless (unlikely) they might make SNN work long term but get pushed out of Cork with AF. This failed before at SNN for them.

Its likely this flight is going to interline with connections to JFK and BOS which your not taking into account either. If EI knew they were going to struggle in any way theres not a hope they'd come near Shannon.

SNN-CDG operated shortly after AF left. Granted different times but not exactly a ringing endorsement.

True but a big ask IMO.

How? Itll be operated by the freed up A320 or either one of the LRs which would make it over and back in plenty of time. Im hearing the BOS flight will be moved to a 13:00 dep to facilitate this.
