Disaster for the airport, especially the retail duty free shop.

Ireland-US travel suspended as of Monday. Going to be a crippling year for the airport.

Ryanair has been forced to cancel all flights to and from Poland, from midnight tonight until the end of the month. (Breaking News)

Will there be inbound flights from the US?

Technically there could be but realistically an airline isn't going to fly here knowing they have to fly back empty. Its too expensive and the loads would be fairly low coming this way anyway.

We’ll see the impact this has on SNN this week. EWR is still on sale with UA for now. EI also have to decide.

BA LCY-JFK stopper off until September

It's operating today but will stop when Trumps EU ban to include Ireland takes effect.

I would have imagined that this exclusive BA business service along with the corporate jet sector would see growth once the restrictions will be eased again.

Those routes won't last the week. The only question is whether or not they are brought back once all this is over.

    Not true. Yet.

Correct- Its taking effect from this Friday not last Friday. Its because of staff availability at Kuwait and nothing to do with Shannon's service. It suits Omni to use Sofia because of when they can get into Kuwait apparently.

Shannon airport should be the hub of Ireland with access to everywhere so easy and a readymade work force with affordable property in the countryside!
Any international business would be proud to work out of there but Ida only give funding when it’s near Dublin , there kept away from Shannon !
But the political pressure does it best to keep everything in Dublin !

Dublin is a major international airport in a city of 1.5m with 30m passengers a annually. Shannon is a regional airport in a town of 10000 with a city of 100000 and another town of 25000 nearby that has around 1.8m passengers annually. There's a reason companies want to locate in Dublin.

Saying that, 12000 jobs have been created in the Limerick/Shannon region in the last number of years, so to say that the IDA is sending everything to Dublin for political reasons, is quite simply rubbish.

That's true of every airport in Europe. Major European airlines are grounding 75-80% of their fleets, with some grounding everything. This the worst crisis in the history of the aviation industry.

Well Kerry Co op were forced to locate with there r/d on naas road the workers are now leaving as they can’t stand the commute ! And that’s the naas road
That building could have been built in Limerick , near there own base , airport and 2 hours to Dublin.
That’s a fact Ida only gave funding when it was in Dublin !

No, they located there because of it's location near the countries major population center with its large pool of graduates and easy access to the countries major international airport. They didn't even have to locate it in Ireland and looked around Europe before picking Naas. https://www.irishtimes.com/business/agribusiness-and-food/kerry-puts-innovation-on-its-menu-for-growth-1.1604060

You should stop listening to the conspiracy theorys.

Look SNN is not DUB it never will be, you cannot blame DUB for SNN not being a mega hub - it will never be. Dublin is the capital and it's where the population is and is well connected by motorways etc.

Shannon has it's niche and does well for the captive population close to it, people need to support the flights that are there and more so when this crisis is over.

No point looking into the past, the stop over days are gone so it's dog eat dog in the aviation world.

The Trump wall has been turned down by An Board Pleanala.

So the golf course development will not go ahead, in fact the whole thing may be closed down now.

The Atlantic will just keep knocking lumps out of it.

Jobs gone from west clare and a blow to Shannon airport.

I didn't see any annoucement about job losses?

Are you saying that regardless of the environmental costs it should have gone ahead anyway? Should we bow to the needs of a corporation anytime they threaten to withdraw from something regardless of the consequences to our natural world?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,651 ✭✭✭golfball37

I think the opinion of the local community should carry more weight than some remote quango when it comes to planning issues

So is your issue that its a Trump venture or the damage to the environment that concerns you?

Do you think all the construction work would not have created jobs, and the ballroom, leisure centre that were to follow, would these not create long term sustainable jobs, reverse never ending rural decline?

There wasn't any issue with the same job being done in Lahinch. There wasn't even a planning process.

Presuming SNN CDG wont go ahead next week? SNN EWR will also resume 05th of May instead of 29th of March.

CDG started 2 weeks ago. Presume it will be suspended for at least a month or so. Also presume there will be no LHR schedule for a similar period. At least BCN was down to start in May...
