Proceeds go to charity instead of host club (after C.I. commissar fees have been deducted, presumably, unless they're doing it pro bono...).

    Thanks

Yes, just be there for 9ish, pay and sign on in the pub (it's on the old main road) and then get yourself ready for the depart at 9.30.

Not going to make the sportive myself tomorrow but hope to get over to see the finish of the races in the afternoon.

Looks to be not too bad assuming it's dry enough to not have ice on the road. However, it's going to be BALTIC so wrap up :-)

Just to let you all know that it has been relayed to me this morning that the e20 entry IS going ahead.Various negotiations etc over the past few days.
Personally i totally disagree with it but just to let you know. Please dont shoot the messenger.
Outrageous disregard of the rules as set out by CI,sure ware your numbers anyway you please lads sure it will be grand for this race anyway,CI rules dont seem to apply
If they asked us to make a donation to their charity fair enough but €20 for a race entry is against the rules,so same as last year im out

I was talking to this lad I know from england and he said its 10 pound to do a 1hour crit
    15 pound for a 60k race
    20 pound for a 80k - 100k race

So IMHO is it really that bad for a once off charity race at the very start of the year??

This isn't a CI rule. This is a Cycling Leinster ruling on capping entry fees.

So be sure you know who you are slating before posting.

I agree with killalaner. An optional donation to charity would be fine, but having to pay 33% more than the Cycling Leinster upper cap is not on. What would happen if every organiser started doing that, or started saying a race was 30 quid with it all going to charity. It's not on, and, imho the organising club should be reprimanded for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,990 ✭✭✭cantalach

The €5 excess over the cap doesn't seem like much in the context of how much people are going to spend on gels, High5, race tyre rubber, a recovery bar afterwards, and petrol to drive to the damned thing. When the beneficiary is a charity, I have no issue with rules being bent a little bit. Life's too short for getting worked up over these things.

5 euro is not much, but what happens when organisers start adding 10 quid, or 15. What if every race does it. What happens if an organiser decides to ignore other rules. Maybe run a race without ambulance cover, maybe have less marshals etc. By all means have a charity donation, but to make it compulsory and tie it in to the cost of the race entry (resulting in an entry fee that is higher than the Cycling Leinster capped limit) is not on.

Anyway, I've said my bit and won't be racing any races that are over the CL limit.

Few photos before the start and short video of the start of the A1 race i believe?

Apparently a touch of wheels coming up to the sprint, I heard the guy broke his collar bone. Hope he's ok, I suppose it could have been worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,185 ✭✭✭nilhg

Robin Kelly came home on his own in the A1/A2, seemed like a couple of minutes back to the field.

Didn't get anymore results, heard of one broken collarbone in that A3 crash.

Just saw one garmin after the A4 37.6km/hr and he was a few seconds down on the group.

MAD MTB member winning that A4 race, some of the mountain biking lads are savage, no surprise that a switch to the road can bring immediate and comprehensive success.

eh..they only really bother with them for stage races! Maybe somebody who raced and finished in the front of your race could give it to you.

Yeah, I know that but did it myself and was dropped. Just want to know how far behind I was!

No 37.7 avg was what I saw - it was under 60km around 57 km.

Someone who finished in the main bunch said 39km/h to me too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,429 ✭✭✭wirelessdude01

37.7 or 39km. Is that the normal speed for an A4 race?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭padjo5

    yes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 95 ✭✭sheepfield

Dont worry about average speeds lads, if you cud hang with the front bunch of the race today you are probably fit enough for February, whatever grade ur in. Twas a hard enough route and good standard all round, the winners on the day were clearly way ahead of the opposition given how far ahead each was. Broken collar bone and a broken bike too in A3 I believe. Unfortunate.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 66 ✭✭Aodho

Yeah 4/5 lads came down in A3 about 1/2k from the line, the dodgy surface played it's part I think. A Swords lad was a bit banged up but a Naas rider came off the worst with a cracked clavicle... poor fella, he'ld been riding noticeably strong

Any reports from those for whom this was their first race?

What were the field sizes like?

Anyone got any links to some photos?

This was my first ever race, and struggled. Hung in for about 12k or so, but then got dropped. Kept going and saw quite a few (at least 15-20 I'd say) turn back shortly afterwards. Was on my own for a good while, but a fella from Laois CC and myself worked together to get to the end (caught one other, and could see a few others up ahead then).
Given it was my first one, just wanted to finish it to be honest, but the pace to start with was what caught me out.
Really enjoyed the buzz etc. but would have been nice to hang on for a bit longer.

Any reports from those for whom this was their first race?

It wasn't my first race but is only my second season racing, I rode five open races last year. I was in the A4 race and it was hard work there yesterday. It seemed tougher than some of the early races last year (might be my fitness is down)
Anyway I found it a tough course with no where to hide. That return road back to Monasterevin seemed to go on for ever and there was people trying to pop off the front all the way back in, unsuccessfully, apart from the winner of course. Fair fcuks to him that was quite a ride.
I wanted to contest the sprint and was on the centreline about 10 back but from what i remember as we were starting to spread out and increase the speed a big tour bus came around out of the village thereby putting me back into the group fairly pronto. Not saying I would've gotten some points but nice to have a go if your up there for it.

Overall those roads are great to race on as you can overtake safely.Road surface coming into finish line was poor but well marked.
Nice mug of tea afterwards with a sandwich - thanks to the organisers for that.

This was my first race ever too. A bit of a shock to the system alright :) There were only four other women signed on when I got there so I knew then there wasn't going to be a separate women's race. Got a bit of a hop when I found out we would be heading off with the A3s. Found the pace a bit much but was surprisingly ok in the bunch for a while, I had been very nervous of the idea of being so close to other riders but the reality wasn't half as bad. Hung on for about 10km. Then went out the back.

Felt very sorry for myself for a while then a girl from Orwell came along and we worked together until the A4s caught us at 15 kms. Managed to hop on and felt happy enough till we got to a climb followed by a sharp turn about 25kms. I wasn't ready for the increase in pace out of the corner and found myself off the back again.

Caught up with another girl and we worked together till the end ( after a slight detour down the wrong road). Even managed a bit of a sprint to the line :)

I was disappointed not to hang on longer but all in all I loved it and can't wait till the next one.

One rider from Naas has a broken collarbone, another from Swords was roughed up and his forks were broken in the A3 crash. Gladly the A4 race seemed to go off without any problems but its hard to know as it split in 2 on the climb.

well ran race in my opinion , was in the A4 race , route was a good mix of everything. The last couple of hundred metres getting into the town was probably the worst of the whole race. No major havoc in the group but some donkey did drop a bottle after about 5km which I thankfully hit square and rolled over.
