Popped into the pool thread for a gawk. Bit surprised how confident that they are about winning the league. They've got a chance of course but they seem to think that it's done and dusted!

Jaysis don't mention them or they'll be back in here again praising Wenger/calling him a disgrace in the same breadth :pac:

    I was just thinking...

If we got passed Bayern, we would've played United.

Thank goodness for small blessings ;)

    Everton 1 up.

After the game yesterday, I'm pretty sure we have enough to beat Everton.

It won't be easy, but hopefully we'll kick on now and aim for 3rd.

Was just looking at our final 5 fixtures there.

They're so friendly. I mean we don't even have the form teams from lower down like Palace or Stoke.

    West Ham (H)
    Hull (A)
    Newcastle (H)
    West Brom (H)
    Norwich (A)

    Pity really.

Yip even if we take 18 points in next 6 we will probably come up we will be 4/5 short.

Big games aside it wouldnt be unreasonable to say we should have had a total of 3 points more from the Stoke/Swansea games.

Anyway every club has similar regrets

    1-1 now for Everton.

I said originally if we were within a point or two after the City game, we would win it. Had we held on against Swansea, it would only be three points. So close.

I'm not at all worried about Everton. I'm more worried about if we can still get third or better.

    Agree with this

Even If Everton turned us over I think we round still get 4th

Might sound over confident and will surely be thrown in my face if I'm wrong but 4th has been worst case scenario for the whole season and still is. Everton won't finish above us.

Really hope we sign one of Southampton's players over the summer...Lallana, Schnederlin or J-Rod would all be solid additions.

What makes you think Liverpool would have "bitten" at that offer ?

    More realistic at the time

Wouldnt have made a difference. We activated the release clause in his contract but it was then down to Suarez to say he wanted to talk to us. If he wanted to talk, Liverpool had to let him. £40m+1, £60m, £100m. It didnt matter. It was down to Suarez to say he wanted to talk.

I don't think so, the fact we met his release clause and Henry, rightly or wrongly just said "no dice" says to me they weren't going to sell unless the offer was completely ludicrous. The whole adding the £1 on to the end stunt would have limited our chances too to be fair.

He was their no 1 asset even then. Would have taken Bale money

It's all just speculation really. For all we know, they might've accepted £50 million.

All we actually know is that there may have been a clause (their owner has plenty of reasons to lie, it makes him look good), we bid £40 million (+1), and it wasn't accepted.

The mind does wander. That said he has actually hit new heights this year to the point 60 million is low for him. Last summer im not so sure would that have been feasible.

    Spurs are terrible. Absolutely terrible.

He admitted there was a clause.

Yes, as I said, doing that made him look good, so I wouldn't take it as necessarily true.

Best we can hope for now is fourth and the cup, hopefully just dont lose next week and we should be ok for the top 4.

    looking like it

a win next sunday should do it for 4th & get their confidence back up ahead of the SF

not that it's any difference but geoffarsenal reckons they bid 49 for suarez, after the 40+1

5 points behind chelsea. They still have pool to play and they're not all conquering.
7 points behind Pool who have Chelsea and City to play.

Still twists and turns left in this season.

So long as we are not on the wrong side of them twists and turns, lol. We have had a few too many twists this season :D

Everton also face city and united in the run in too.

Still a lot of chances for teams to slip up.

    Arsenal:
    Everton (A)
    West Ham (H)
    Hull (A)
    Newcastle (H)
    West Brom (H)
    Norwich (A)

    Liverpool:
    West Ham (A)
    Man City (H)
    Norwich (A)
    Chelsea (H)
    Crystal Palace (A)
    Newcastle (H)

    Man City:
    Southampton (H)
    Liverpool (A)
    Sunderland (H)
    West Brom (H)
    Crystal Palace (A)
    Everton (A)
    Aston Villa (H)
    West Ham (H)

Chelsea (also at least two more Champions League games):
    Stoke (H)
    Swansea (A)
    Sunderland (H)
    Liverpool (A)
    Norwich (H)
    Cardiff (A)

If you want to finish higher than 4th then winning a Everton is a must imo.

Someone above us has to drop points somewhere. 3rd and the cup for me.

I think Crystal Palace will upset someone too.

Fair enough. I think winning at Everton will be a very tough ask though.

it will be, they've only lost once there. i wouldn't be as confident as the others but that's their reason.
I think a draw could even be enough but a win would do it.

after that arsenal should take 15/15, everton i think will get around 14/18 at most

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,752 ✭✭✭Mr Blobby

Not sure about getting 3rd.. But I think we have 4th in the bag.
Even if we lose to Everton they still need to beat City which i don't see happening.

The way this season has went with injures and stuff. I'd be happy with 4th and a Trophy. :)

After the Swansea result can you really be confident about 15/15 plus with a cup semi final and final in there.
