I don't think we are scoring enough goals.
I wonder how we compare to this time last year.
We really need a scoring striker.

I'd say Giroud comes in like a wrecking ball...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,752 ✭✭✭Mr Blobby

Even though he didn't get much playing time I was very impressed with Dzeko.
Personally think we should look at picking him up in the summer.

Not sure what he's on wage wise though...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,205 ✭✭✭Gringo180

I hope Giroud is up for this game mentally tomorrow, his head surely has to be all over the place after him been caught having an affair and it spashed all over the rags. Wouldnt be surprised to see Podolski starting up front.

So vermaelen has told Wenger he wants to leave in the summer.

If we loose him and sagna, as I said we need two good replacements, not an easy job.

Can't go advanved on phone but this is what Galvasean had 19/2/13:

    Walcott 18 (11)
    Giroud 14 (9)
    *Podolski 13 (9)*
    Cazorla 9 (9)
    Gervinho 5 (3)
    Arteta 4 (4)
    Mr. Owen Goal 3 (3)
    Chamakh 2 (0)
    Koscielny 2 (1)
    Oxlade-Chamberlain 2 (1)
    Wilshere 2 (0)
    Arshavin 1 (0)
    Gibbs 1 (0)
    Mertesacker 1 (1)
    Miquel 1 (0)
    Ramsey 1 (0)
    Rosicky 1 (0)
    Vermaelen 1 (0)

8 goals away from last yeat, missing Walcott (18), Gerv(5) and arguably Pod (13).

Not too bad tbf. Defence really needs to start getting some credit!

    Quiet in here today...

    So,

Hiding behind the couch or a bit blasé about tonights game?

I'm a bit blasé. I don't expect us to win, so I just want to see a good game and hopefully not get tanked too bad.

slightly worried about all the defensive talk. I think if we play a defensive game and let them have possession, we might be walking straight into their arms...

Sooooooo Sagnas off to Liverpool apparently.

    That is mad.

At least there's no pressure really tonight, hopefully can keep it tight enough. Try reduce their away goals.

There isnt really much to talk about.

Should be a handy enough 2 or 3 nil home win and then move on to Saturday.

Pep has always came across as a class act.

I know it won't happen but I'd love him if he ever came to England to manage Arsenal.

As for tonight, I'm not really nervous at all as expectation is relatively low on progressing so anything will be a bonus. Bayern on paper are frightening. But I doubt Arsenal were the draw that they wanted at this stage. This is what the CL is all about. Playing the best teams in Europe.

As for the comment about the defenders and the job they have done this year; it is phenomenal. Kos and BFG have been immense but also Nacho has done a good job when coming in for Gibbs and likewise Jenkinson for Sagna. And both keepers have been brilliant.

I wouldn't say never about Guardiola. He's only 43 after all. 3-5 years with Bayern, joins us for 5 years, back to Barcelona for the last ten years of his career.

I'd say out of all the clubs in the PL, if we pitched it to him, he could come over.

He seems to like our style and philosophy on football.

Amazingly what would seem off the cuff and play based on pure instinct with Barcelona and now Bayern is actually moves that are well planned out with anticipation of the opponent making certain mistakes

I'm in the west stand myself!

Sitting in my apartment now, wanting it to be seven already so I can start the walk to the stadium. Once I get to Highbury Corner, then the atmosphere goes up about four notches, and from then onwards, I'm just swept along with the Red Army.

Realistically its incredibly implausible, for so many reasons.

I don't think it's that implausible really, all it takes is for Liverpool to value his services a little higher than we do. Wenger has demonstrated many times that he tends be very rigid when it comes to valuations.

Its not that simple though, it would take Liverpool to value his services by enough more than Arsenal to convince a long serving Arsenal player to move to a lesser team. I sincerely doubt he'd move to Liverpool for 5k extra per week for example. And that's assuming Liverpool are even interested, which is a huge assumption.

5k extra a week equates to quarter of a million p/a and knowing Liverpool they'll probably give him a 4-5 year contract. It makes financial sense if you're Sagna

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭MaxPower89

Whilst I really want Sagna to stay, if we brought in someone world class, who can offer a bit more offensively then I would trust the manager to make the right call. Promoting Jenks and having Bellerin as 2nd choice wouldn't be good enough though.

Feel the drubbing to Liverpool was a kick up the a** we needed, and will stand us in good stead tonight. If we went out in a passive manner like that game tonight, we would be torn to shreads. Expecting a blood and guts display from the gunners tonight.

    COYG!

Wenger should not sell to rival EPL teams.

Wenger should not sell to rival EPL teams.

With Sagna out of contract, he'll have no choice in the matter. At least with RVP we got a decent return and enabled the purchases of Podolski, Cazorla & Giroud.

Rodgers stuck to his guns over Suarez though and money didn't persuade him to sell one of his jewels to a rival.

RVP only had a year left on his contract when he was pushing for a move. With Suarez, Liverpool held the trump card with plenty of time left on his contract when he wanted out.

yea to be fair rodgers did hold all the cards with that move as oppose to arsenal with rvp.

i get it and i agree fully. you should never sell your best players to a rival. i would have rathered (like most liverpool fans) that we sold suarez to madrid for 20-25 mllion than to ye for 40. its just common sense. you dont help your rivals.

wengers mind set though is that he is doing what is best for the club. he sells a player for as much as he can and if its to a rival so be it. but he has made a lot of cash for ye. before we all thought that he was being greedy but by the looks of it ye can now spend the big bucks on players. this summer will be the acid test to see if he is actually willing to continue spending big. i think he will myself but there is always the chance that he is unwilling to do it every season.

if i was an arsenal fan and wenger really has the cash to spend id be hoping that this summer ye would be signing draxler costa and a top defender. no point having a world class number 10 if he has no one to play with

We already have two, thanks. Backup yeah, but a starting centre half isn't our priority.

fair enough but ye could def do with upgrading yer full backs spots. but that doesnt matter. my point is that if ye have the cash ye should splash it and help out ozil

I don't see why our fullbacks need upgrading. Unless of course Sagna does leave.

Our fullbacks are fine too, if Sagna stays.

The game at Anfield has made me a bit nervous that things can go wrong with the team. If we play anything like we did there or at St Mary's we could be in for an absolute hiding.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,300 ✭✭✭HazDanz

If we manage to break past their high pressing line on the counter we have a chance. Very hard to do that though!

Wilshere and his ghosting past players will be massive tonight if he can pull it off like he can.

Really hope the ox starts. He'll give us an outlet on counters, otherwise it could be a bit difficult for us.

Whatever happens it's great being apart of this game. Real excitement to the build up.

    I'd love a 1-1 right now.

We're in a better place than last year by a mile but I'm still worried we could get battered. Bayern are in a much better place than last year too. :(

So long as there's still something to play for in Munich (by that I mean only a 1 goal deficit) I'll be happy. We won't make up a 2 goal deficit to win the tie.

It'd be nice to be in the CL 1/4s again :)
