In general, all new motor vehicles and vehicles brought into Ireland are subject to Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) and must be registered with the Revenue Commissioners.

The VRT export scheme was introduced in 2013 and allows for a partial VRT refund on vehicles being permanently exported from the State

    Please note:
VRT will not be refunded if the OMSP is under €2000
VRT will not be refunded if there was no VRT paid on the vehicle
The vehicle must have a valid NCT
There is a €500 administration charge, which will be deducted from the VRT amount that is repayable
The NCTS apply a charge for each vehicle examination
