Norinco Ammo

Was over in Jim Griffins tonight, and seen a box of ammo on the counter. It's marked Norinco. Now i've heard of the brand before but only in terms of guns. Did not realise they made ammo too.

Had a look at it and it looks cheap. Then he told me the price. €9 per box or 100 rounds for €40. It's 147 gr fmj so i don't think it's suitable for animals, but at that price i'm half tempted to get a few boxes for zeroing, plinking, etc. I'm by no means stuck for ammo, but i used to keep a box or two of HPS as it was cheap shooting and they were good value. I'm not expecting the same from these, but would be interested in getting a review of what they are like.

So anyone use it? What's it like? Says the cases are steel, but they seem to have a coating on them.

Guy I'm subscribed to on YT only put a video up recently about Norinco ammo. It was surplus 7.62x39, guy pulled a few bullets, measured bullet weight, powder charge etc. He seemed pretty happy with it for what it was.

Like anything Chinese, mass produced it will go Bang most if not all of of the times and go,more or less where you aimed it.It's good plinker ammo,I used to burn boxes of it in AZ with my Norinco MAK 90 in 7.62X39:P It was somthing ridicilous at the time like 15[?] USD for 500.It used to come somtimes in what looked like a giant sardine tin, complete with key..That was until Mr Klinton closed down the Chinese import of firearms into the US.:(
Use it for fun like ringing steel or punching fun paper targets. But leave it at home for the target shoots where scores count.

Also, clean your barrel immediatly[like with Hot soapy water!!] after using this stuff, unless it is a chrome lined barrel. The stuff in the states had apprently hellishly corrosive primers. My MAK was chrome lined so it wasnt an issue, but thats why AKs and SKS barrels are chrome lined due to the milspec ammo they use
.NORINCO is either the first or 2nd largest Chinese arms maker so most of their ammo is milspec ,and quality control might be a little haphazard and an order might be made up from surplus powder or brass and worst corrosive primers.
    Better be safe than sorry.:)

I'm under no impression that this is top quality ammo, but when you consider that the average box of ammo, even cheaper stuff runs at around €28 per 20 it could make for a cheap alternative. There is the PPU stuff, and i know that's rubbish, even at 100 yards, so would be interested to try a few just to see what happens. Plus this is available to me, the PPU stuff is not (anymore).

It's funny my first thought was "i'll need to clean the crap out of the barrel" when i seen the coating on the rounds. Will check out a few videos so, and see what the crack is.

If its 7.62x39 its most likely military surplus, comes in crates packed in sardine cans, never had an issue with it my SKS, primers are corrosive and harder than commercial spec, have heard of occasional FTF in CZ 527's in 7.62x39.

Its usually copper plated steel cased or sometimes a green-ish lacquer like the Russian stuff.

They also make commercial ammo in most of the popular calibers, quite popular out in Canada.

Can be dirty but it's cheap to plink with, just make sure to clean with hot soapy water or Windex to neutralize the corrosive salts, including the gas system and chamber areas, as Grizzly said.

What caliber does he have it in, was it in black/silver cardboard boxes or paper wraps of 20 rounds?

I tried a couple of boxes of it some time back . Bought from jim in rahan as well . Put it through a trg 22 and it shot like a shotgun.couldn't get any sort of group from it at all . Pure rubbish in my view and wouldn't waste your money on it .
