Does anyone know how many unemployed secondary school teachers there are in Galway or in Ireland even? My daughter is thinking of doing her PME this year and as this runs for a period of two years at a cost of €5000.00 per year, she is really thinking hard of the prospects of her getting a teaching job at the end of her course. Any thoughts?

    Loads.
There is not enough work for all the secondary teachers.

it depends on the subject, attitude, politics, luck.... subject-wise, any evidence-based subject is attractive now as the arts, religion, history etc are being sidelined; she'll need a very positive optimistic attitude to counter the endemic pessimism in the staff room; depends on any further political cuts & contractual changes; luck in getting into a school for subbing hours as full-time staff are now expected to take on the bulk of the subbing hours that were typically given out to newly qualified substitute teachers. also, she must truly like and respect kids, otherwise it'll be hell.

Also helps if you're friends with or related to a principal in terms of employment.
