    Hi Guys,

Im just looking for some advice and info on relocating to Zurich.
My partner has been working in Zurich for the past year, he is currently contracting but has been offered a permanent position. We both feel it would be a great opportunity and think he should go for it.
The plan would be for me to join him and start a life there.

I am currently working as a PA and Senior administrator for a very large multinational company,( a transfer is off the cards) I am wondering what my options are workwise. I have looked on jobs.ch and there are a few positions for admin staff for English speakers. I plan to send a few CV's off, Im nervous about applying from Ireland and worried I would not even be considered.

Has anyone been through this process?
Can anyone shed some light on the situation, There is alot of info out there regarding moving to OZ or Canada, but very little on moving to Switzerland

    Thanks in advance.

Maybe do a search for Swiss agencies that specialise in recruitment in your area. Give them a bell, explain your situation & see what advice they have to offer.

I work for a swiss multinational and am at head office once every 2 months.

Out of all the admins/PA's that I deal with, only 2 (out of 15 or 16) are swiss. The rest are english, french or american. Seems to be pretty common, as most of the execs that have admins are not swiss either. I know a couple of irish ones at other firms there. Most had jobs within a couple of weeks of moving

You won't have too many issues.

We did think about moving to switzerland and I know a lot that have made the move there and love it. Life is pretty regimented (ie no noise in apartment buildings, supermarkets just aren't open on Sunday's and close at 7pm at the latest) but they also love the outdoors and Zurich is a beautiful city. Cost of living is high, but so are wages but all of my friends there say that you are left with more each month than you were in Ireland and Spain

Thank you both for coming back to me, I wonder if you could help me again. My boyfriend is finishing his placement in Zurich this Friday, As part of his contract he is provided with accommadation and Flights, He is due to receive his last wage tomorrow, He has just received an email stating that as of new tax legislation he now has to pay Benefit in Kind on the accommadation provided, And pay backdated to January.

This sounds a bit odd to me, Can you shed any light on this???

I'm afraid I can't help with this as each canton has its own tax rules & I live in Bern. However, I'm sure that the payroll dept of his employer can advise him.

Agreed - tax is complicated in Switzerland as it goes Canton x Canton (for instance there are completely different rules for Basel Stadt and Basel Land)

His best bet is to talk to a tax consultant in Switzerland regarding this.
