If you burned to a dvd with a dodgy burner, would that dvd be so it would bot be able to be read by other burner?

Suppose the reason i asked is i had to throw out a few disks. As far as i know they were all in the dodgy one when i thought i had it fixed. But i did wonder if it was a bad batch of disks. i have a new burner on my desktop

Some burners are more picky when it comes to cheaper discs. In all honesty all laptop DVD Burners tend to be rubbish, desktop ones tend to be much better in general. Try the one on the desktop and see how you get on. Also try burning at half the medias rated speed, i.e: 16x Disc burn at 8x, 8x Disc burn at 4x etc. Can improve the burn quality

My burning software (Nero), has an option that i must 'tick' (multisession) before i start the the burning process. If i don't tick the box, the disc is only playable on the PC it was created. When ticked it works on any device.

Check your software for any such options.

Also check if there's new firmware for your DVD burner and DVD Player.

I think that the DVD burner has to recognise the make/model of the disks to work out the max burn rate and there's lookup tables of manufacturers /disk types in the firmware ?

As Yoyo said, the slower you burn a DVD the better it should be, it's just a trade off in your patience to wait for it to complete.

Also make sure you finalize the DVD, which should be an option in your dvd burning software.

I used to burn/convert movies to DVD's the odd time, and my standalone dvd player was fussy about dvd brands.

Also, there's different types of DVD's, DVD+R, DVD-R and rewritable versions.
Maybe your burner or player don't support one of them them ?

    Hmmm, don't know about that.
Multisession means that the DVD is not finalised.
The DVD index has been left open to allow you to go back and add more items later.

Maybe it works on PC's, but finalising the disk is best for compatibility.

that is only an option if you want to add more files later. It should not be necessary for one file to play

When you put the Disc in the drive ImgBurn will show the media ID in the log, some common ones off the top of my head are MCC, CMC, Ritek, Yuden etc. followed by a number code, e.g: MCC002

That's not media ID, it's the detected drive hardware.

How you installed the latest firmware for that ?
    Last release was 20/April/2012.

    http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-GH22NS50

Actually... there may be different versions in there... so be careful.
In the software update, there's TN03, and your drive says TN02

So it's possible the last firmware update for TN02 was this one..

    GH22NS50_TN02-08(ew).zip 07/26/2010 1,903K

is firmware the same as drivers?

    Technically no.

Firmware is very low level code specific to the device and generally installed/burned/flashed on to device itself via software.

Drivers are operating system specific, allowing Windows/Linux to communicate with the device.
