    Understanding tyre sizes

    66sh.jpg

    1 Section width:
This is the width of the tyre, measured in millimeters

    2 Aspect ratio/profile:
This measures the height of the tyres sidewall as a percentage of the section width.
    For example, a 195/50 R16 tyre has a sidewall height of 97.5mm, a 215/50 R16 tyre has a sidewall height of 107.5mm

    3 Rim size:
This is the size of rim the tyre is designed to fit, measured in inches.

    4 Load index:
This value determines the amount of weight a tyre can carry. Lower profile tyres tend to have lower ratings. If you are replacing your tyres, is is important to have tyres with the same rating or a higher rating than the standard tyre size.

    5 Speed rating
The speed rating of any tyre is a measurement of the max safe speed the tyre can carry a load under specified conditions. It is also shows how the tyre will handle at lower speeds. A higher rated tyre will give you better traction and improved steering response.
