If you are going to do something, spend the time and do it right rather than having to go back and fix it later.

Always give something a go, even if you don't think you can do it as you will be surprised at what you actually can do when you put your mind to it.

Never take **** from another person, ever. Its disrespectful to yourself.

Never allow yourself to be bullied, its better to stand up for yourself and take a beating than do nothing and get bullied for years. It might take a few beatings but when a bully realises that you won't just lie down, they move on.

A punch in the face is not as sore as you think it is... I have had many in training and I didn't even notice until the eye started swelling later!

Don't try and impress other people, they won't notice, because they are too busy trying to impress you.

A part of all you earn is yours to keep. (i.e. Save)

You are not responsible for anyone elses state of mind.

    Gambling is a mugs game.

Nonsense. Gambling is a form of entertainment, it costs money. Don't forget that. That means for every bet you take, the true cost of it is some % of the stake (maybe 10, not much more). Few make a profit, and fewer hold on to it.

Is going to the cinema, or a sports event, a mug's game? That's entertainment that costs money too.

Mine. If you understand the rules, play whatever games you want. If you don't, go learn the rules first.

Pulling out doesn't work, especially when you don't actually pull out.

When the one great scorer comes to mark upon your name, he notes not that you won or lost but how you played the game.

A common refrain from Gambling Anonymous meetings "...at least I was entertained"

This is how I try to live my life.
No. 1; Be kind, both to others and to yourself.
No. 2; Think carefully and honestly about what it is you think you want.
No. 3; Work out what you need to do to achieve the answer to No. 2.
No. 4; Think carefully and honestly before deciding if the answer to No. 3 is actually a price you are willing to pay for the answer to No. 2.
No. 5; If the answer to No. 4 is NO, re-think No. 2, because if you are not willing to pay the price you will end up unhappy whether you fail or succeed; if the answer is YES, do everything you can to make the answer to No. 3 happen, bearing in mind No. 1.
No. 6; Use the nice glasses, china, jewellery (or whatever other people might think you should keep for special occasions) as often as you can. If it gets broken, or damaged, or lost, don't worry too much about it. After all, it's only a thing, and things aren't important. People are.

TL;DR - be nice, and get your priorities right.

My Dad always says this - what you gain on the swings, you lose on the roundabouts.

A dumb curate never got a parish.

My favourite one though and trying to do this daily is - when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
