I added you above. I can't really comment on the full marathon course, I do know from various runs around Limerick that there are no significant climbs of any description, more a series of gentle rises and falls which over the course of marathon will have an impact no doubt. The elevation profile shows nothing more than a 100ft rise anywhere so nothing too intimidating, although the overall elevation suggests it is a very softly rolling course all the way around. Best of luck, impressive target for first time out, hope it all works out!

Thanks Johndozer! I hope my targets not too optimistic.

Pb in half is 1.36.30, long runs (20/22) coming in at 8.05per mile .... I'm a first timer so I really have no idea where I will come in?

Anyone comment on those times and the possibility of finishing in 3.27? ( I'm female - if that makes a difference !!!)

    Hi all,
Does anyone know can you walk the half marathon or it it solely for runners? Unfortunately am banned from running after a recent back operation so walking it is my only option.
    Thanks.

That all sounds about right. I did my 1st marathon at 3:38 after a hm in around 1:40, so you're about on the money. Of course you're entering into unknown territory but if you've done the miles in training then you might even do a bit better.

    Have fun.

How many long runs, just the two? I'd be pretty conservative in your first marathon- I can tell you from personal experience a bad blow up is not a nice experience. You have pretty decent HM speed but I'd say unless you've hit 5 or 6 20 plus lsr's 3:27 could be a bit tight. Maybe go out at 3:45 pace and crank it up from 18 if you're feeling strong?

    Thanks.

First group for the half starts at 11:45 and course doesn't close 'til 4:30 so you should be grand...depending how slow you walk obviously. Make sure you move back to the last group of starters though.

I'm thinking of running the full next weekend but don't think I can make it down on the Saturday to collect my number and pack. Any chance some nice boardsie might be able to help and pick it up for me?

Apologies for hijacking your post, I'm in the same boat as I'm running the Bandon half-marathon on Sat morning so a return drive to Limerick might just push me over the edge! Would be very grateful if anyone could pick up my number as well :)

if you guys confirm with the organisers that one person can collect multiple packs i'll take care of it for you.

the only caveat is that i am only doing the half, so if you;re doing the full you'll need to collect the pack from me in killaloe that morning. if you;re north of limerick that's fine.

for the half i can meet you in town before hand

I think thats good advice, you certainly have the potential to run a 3:27, but i would be cautious, start off slow and take it from their. i ran my first marathon in Cork last june and going into it i was fairly confident of doing it around 3:30, and hit the wall at mile 16(shocked me..) and ended up finishing in 3:50. i did the first half in 1h44(and the pacers were bragging about bagging minutes(damm them)
I went out with the 3:30 pacers and just wasnt used to running at that pace for so long, the weather was a factor also i am running limerick now, and will start off slow and take it from their, i have done 4 runs over 20 miles, longest being 22.5,
I will hope to beat and should beat 3:50 and then take it onto Dublin which is the main aim. and i ran a half marathon before cork in 91 minutes. which made me think i could do 3:30 in my sleep!!

good luck to you and all others, looking forward to it and then looking forward to a small break from running before i aim for Dublin!

The website is brutal! Can't seem to get any info on whether someone else can pick up the packs or would have offered myself. If the above generous offer doesn't suit I'm staying with a group in the Limerick City Hotel?(formerly Jurys) from Saturday so would be there or thereabouts for collection.

I would contact them through their facebook page, they will respond to that

I have often collected packs for family and friends.

You just need their number and email address

Send the confirmation email to the person collecting the packs, the person collecting the packs prints off the emails and collects the packs at the Expo in UL Arena

I just rang them earlier, took all of 30 secs! Was told there's no problem collecting a pack for someone else they just need the ticket.

Grand. Well as I said I'm in town from Saturday afternoon and won't be rushing off anywhere in a hurry Sunday morning as I'm doing the half. PM me on your details if this solution works for you.

It is appalling. I thought I was the queen of ignoring the clutter and homing in on the data I'm looking for but no....have ended up just shutting down the browser window every time. In fairness to them they do answer emails fairly promptly but they would save themselves mucho hassle if the website wasn't trying to be some kind of social media hub for runners or something.

Yes. bag drop facility on the Sunday at The Project National School, O'Connell Avenue, Limerick City. Its a red brick building across from South's pub. Just around the corner from the start.
