Cork ETB votes not to publish expenses

A Cork city councillor has criticised a recent decision by members of the Cork Education and Training Board (ETB) not to publish expenses. He also suggested that the new board could be called before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to explain.

They are all worried that people will see what they are earning:rolleyes:... They are going for an old style of politics."
Cork ETB was contacted on Tuesday 21 January for a comment from CEO Ted Owens, but he had not contacted the Cork Independent at the time of going to press.

Why is it not mandatory for all public bodies to publish expenses?

Would it not be easier for the PAC to police our public bodies if it were a mandatory requirement?

Short answer is: Because there is no will for transparency.

A government can have the greatest will for transparency, however governments come & go, the public & civil service are permanent.

Imagine a large website detailing the pay & expenses of every public service team/dept.

Would never happen because it isn't in the interests of the PS to do so.
