A common alternative to Coleman fuel for the duel fuel lantern is Aspen 4T. http://www.mower-power.com/shannonside/product.asp?numRecordPosition=3&P_ID=776&strPageHistory=&strKeywords=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=206

I use petrol, without too many issues.

I buy it when I'm in the UK, but I've noticed the odd couple of shops with it in Cork, KK and Waterford. Interestingly a little sport shop had it in Dungarvan so I guess if you asked anywhere that did camping and sports gear they could order it for you, expensive though iirc last bottle I got here was €14, UK normally under a tenner.

I also noticed that it was for sale on Amazon.co.uk, now whether they will post it out to Ireland I don't know.

those multi fuel burners can use unleaded petrol can't they?

I was told at one point the white gas is just a more refined version of unleaded petrol. the petrol leaves deposits on the burner but this gets cleaned off by a subsequent burn with white gas so alternate between them and you should be good.

Can anyone confirm this is correct?.

Most if not all the white gas stoves can use modern unleaded fuel the difference is that there are a whole load of chemicals in unleaded that aren't good for either the user or the stove.

Best advice I can give is if you have to use unleaded then don't use more than about 5 tanks full before running it on a full tank of Coleman White Gas or similar specialist fuel to clean out any deposits.

I have a Coleman White Gas lamp which I have only ever run on unleaded and its runs fine.

One major advantage of White Gas is there is no problem with storage as it will last almost forever where as unleaded has a definite shelf life before it starts to go off. Two year old unleaded will still burn but it will have produced gum deposits that will mess up a stove.

So I finally tracked down a source of Aspen 4 fuel to give it a try.

As a guide to pricing I paid

€5.5 for one liter and 5l is €25 if it works out OK I'll buy 5l next time.

Supplier in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford was Troys (Bob Troy and Co) Garden Machinery so I guess any big garden machinery shop might sell it.

Will update later how I get on with it. Found an endorsement for its use on the UK Apsen website http://www.aspenfuel.co.uk/news/aspen-4-also-great-in-stoves-and-lanterns/ .
