You can do a general science degree followed by a PDE which is now 2 years duration. There are also concurrent degrees in Limerick and Maynooth that will qualify you to teach Biology and another subject. It wouldn't be ideal to have just Biology as a subject jobs wise. I'm currently studying Science Education at Maynooth with Biology and Chemistry as my 2 degree subjects. Be warned that there are very little jobs in teaching and I even have accepted that despite being 2 years through my degree. With concurrent teaching degrees there are options to transfer into general science (which I could end up doing :o).

Agh thanks. Do you know any courses in Dublin I could apply to to eventually get into biology teaching. Even though jobs are scares ATM hopefully 5 years down the it'll be a difference story. Cheers:)

I'd say you'll be looking at general science degrees in Dublin followed by a PDE after your degree. Whatever degree interests you, check on the Teaching Council's website to see if it's recognised for teaching.

UCD also runs a concurrent science education degree where you can specialise in Biology . Points are pretty high but aim for it and also put general science degrees down on your CAO as a back up.
