something i have wondered some of you may have an answer.
if teams on opposite ends of the country are playing each other,do they travel by bus or fly?
Do players have to sit on busses for 5-6 hours before and after a match or do county boards pay for flights for the squad?if so it must cost a fair whack.

Yep, Donegal flew to Cork for the league game last year.

Probably does cost the county board a fair whack (I heard somewhere that that trip cost Donegal county board somewhere around €20k but I have no idea whether that is accurate), but the trip from, say Ballybofey to Cork City, would take 6 1/2 hours each way, and thats without stopping, the players would obviously need to eat etc. So you're looking at 2 full days on the road.

The Donegal Hurlers don't generate a huge amount of income for their county board.

It will depend on the game(time and day the game due to be played will be a factor) and countys involved as well as Managers preference etc.

The Waterford footballers had to drive themselves up to a qualifier game a couple of years ago. Not 100% but I think it was against Limerick. Players had to sit in the back of a car with gearbags on their laps. Complete joke in this day & age.

The Dubs bus it to away games. At least, they did to all the away games last year in Kerry, Donegal, Carlow and Drogheda. Which is a bit odd, seeing as Aer Lingus are one of their sponsors & they would probably get the flights (to Kerry & Donegal) for free, or greatly discounted. Maybe the flight times didn't match up with when they would be hitting the road?

the flight to donegal would be to carrickfinn/eglinton in derry, it would be a hour to the ground, + 40mins flying + airport time, say 2 1/2hrs the bus would be 3 1/2hrs

Donegal have only flown to Cork/Kerry games afaik, unless your going from north ulster to south leinster/munster it would be impossible to justify the cost v travel time saving imo.
Iv even wondering if you would keep it to North west to South West as the road is decent in the east, (belfast-waterford 3hr20, donegal town- limerick 3hr 45 despite being 60km less) north/south western corridor is often crap & over capacity. i know people who do donegal/cork via dublin as its similar time compared to going direct due to the better roads (also general comfort)

I don't know if Donegal fly to/from Dublin in the McGuinness era, but it is something that they have done in the past. I have read interviews where players talk about not getting the flight back to Donegal with the rest of the squad, as they were staying on in Dublin for work reasons, or to get an injury looked at by a Dublin based specialist. The interviews may have been recent, I can't remember. They all blend together in my brain after a while. :o
