Please explain how Fellaini is worth 28m? I just can't see it. As a defensive midfield player he's too slow over five yards. Doesn't get close enough to his opposition player. Fouls excessively. Is not a great passer. Does not control the tempo of the game. I'm struggling to see what he does well other than grow hair.

Closer to 100 if in charge

I don't see what would cause him to be sacked or him quitting before next season.

Already out of title race. Pretty much out of 4th spot race. High chance of being out of CL to the easiest team they could have been drawn against. They have even planned for no Europa League with big-money friendlies.

Losing by some huge scores, or losing more than 50% of the remaining games?

My attitude with Fel was always that had Fergie bought him, I'd have been thrilled. Going into the summer, he was one of my top midfielder targets; a good age, PL proven, and a donkey of a player. Yes, he wasn't a creative force, but then he wasn't bought for that reason, and Moyes should never have let it come across as an alternative when Fabregas didn't work out.

To me, such a fee makes sense when we're talking about a player who is 26, tied down to a contract at Everton, a club who didn't want to let him go (cause he was their best, most iconic player for a season or two) in a position that United were desperate for, to a manager who was snooping round his old club, in the current economic climate where all prices are inflated.

I think you put him beside a creative force player and a strong partnership could blossom.

I don't think he's worth 37 million pounds. You do.

    End of discussion.

Imo we got mata at a steal price for the calibre of footballer he is and fact are chelsea are huge rivals i reckon we got him cheap... and whats your beef with my man afro? He has been injured he will be a good player for us no doubt...

You could make a good argument for Mata being the best player, at least one of the best, over the past two seasons playing for an English club, he was vital in both of Chelsea's European cup winning campaigns and did very well in the goals/assists department in the league considering Torres was leading the line, 18 goals and 25 assists in 60 games.

37m is what you pay for a player of his quality, I'd say he could have gone for more if he hadn't been sitting on the bench 6 months and wasn't trying to force the move.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,606 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

Yeap, 6 months earlier and I'd think you'd have been paying 60m for him.

38m is a lot of money, but in the context of football, with the player involved, it really wasn't as much as it could have been.

Juan Mata is worth £37m, little doubt about that in todays market.

But we did not need him, and while £37m was being spent on Juan Mata two areas of the side desperately in need of strengthening were once again ignored.

Yeah i think we got a great deal, hell I believe Real Madrid got Ronaldo for a steal when you look at what he has done for them

37 mill considering the player Mata has been to date in his career...that's a steal, an absolute ****ing steal in all fairness. Considering we got out of that with Mata and not having to send Rooney the other way, the club deserves some credit for that.

United got an even bigger steal from Sporting Lisbon.

I've not seen a single piece of evidence to suggest that it was one or the other tbh. We keep hearing about the warchests of 100s of millions that Moyes has, so I don't agree with the idea that it was 37m that stopped us buying other players.

Be that as it may, the fact is that we bought a player we did not need and yet again neglected to deal with terminal problems in other areas of the team.

His best position is the same as Rooneys so its a slightly odd point

That's a sending off and the dutch player didn't even get booked.

But those two facts aren't correlated at all. At least in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I do agree. Just saying your original post seemed to try to paint them as "A happened so B couldn't", which doesn't look to be the case.

get back to playing FM 2014 and cheating like fcuk

    Coleman 15-20 m
    Mangala > 30m
    Shaw 15 > 20m
    Kroos > 30 - 40m
    Carvalho > 20m
    Reus > 30m
    Gundogan > 20m

That's 160m at a conservative estimate to spend plus an extra 1m + in wages a week

    Are you kidding me..

if this comes of i'll....agh forget it..

Coleman was awful tonight. Only 1 game, but I cant imagine him getting sympathy from United fans if he made those mistakes at OT.

Mata is better than Rooney in that position and Van Persie is better than Rooney up front.

England tonight had the same problem with Rooney. He was useless as usual for them.

Making him captain will be the end of Moyes.

To be fair in the second half not one of them can hold their heads up high - poor night all round.
