Whats in ivy that sheep go mad for?

Had a tree fall down in the bad weather and the ewes went mad for the ivy and they are always eating any they can reach.

Dunno, but they seem to pick ivy if they were sick ahead of any other food.

I have also seen them go mad for ash as well. We have a good few ash tress, and the branches would be low to the ground in places (no cattle) and the sheep would stand up straight on their hind legs (well, try to anyways) in the summer to pick the leaves. Very good to watch :)

traditionally Ivy was offered to sick sheep no matter what was wrong with them .probably loaded with antioxidants.saw a sick ewe last year and she pulled the dock leaves out of the silage in preference to the grass?

Cattle seem to love ivy too - as you say it must be giving them something their not getting from grass
