Here is a few pics on my way to work after the torrential rain here yesterday. Its all over local radio this morning with the fire department on speaking on call outs of serious flooding in Co Cavan.

34.5 mm recorded in Ballyhaise yesterday. Possibly one of the highest daily totals recorded anywhere in the country this winter so far?

I would still keep a cursory eye on the trailing cold front late tomorrow for development.

Although nothing special is signalled currently, I do sense that small changes could result in something more significant. And these features are notoriously difficult to forecast.

Latest 18z moves a developing but weak closed low through Ireland early Thursday.

I note the 12z GEM brought something a little sharper across the country

Interestingly ECMWF has now picked up a little something on tonight's passing cold front.

I will be watching the satellite anyway to see if we get any un-forecast further deepening.

ECMWF takes it as a 975hPa centred low to central Scotland at 12z tomorrow.

Passes over Ireland around 6am, with a bit of a wind increase expected over southeastern and Eastern Ireland accompanied with heavy rain.

Probably over analysing but nice dry slot into that developing little low right now to our southwest.

WV ain't the best quality but you can see the dry slot.

Developing low just picked up near end of short term HirLam

-- Latest ECMWF Ensembles @ 24hrs showing a lot more significant lows than on recent runs, although none very concerning, interesting nonetheless.

Proper Atlantic mildly stormy night in Cork City.
Nothing remarkable but it's windy enough for a bit of howling and it's very wet.

Monday or Tuesday looking to have some windy potential on the models. Doesn't look severe at the moment but worth keeping an eye on.

What's the opinion on Mondays storm lads ?

A bit more anxious at storm forecasts after Darwin

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,939 ✭✭✭goat2

my god are we in for a trashing again monday,
i have been looking at the magicseaweed chart and it is showing my region in the eye of the storm again,
getting out as much as possible, but cabin fever is now setting in,
MT is usually spot on and it is looking what ever items about the place are loose will be finished off by this, roof not fully back to scratch yet, as we have to wait for a spell of dry weather to get on those ridge tiles that need cement them in, and cement needs dry weather to work, so we are a bit open to the elements, but because it is just the ridge right now, at least they are not in at moment to break the
tiles we had to replace due to them falling allover roof and breaking all round them in that last terrifying storm,
any tree that had to fall is down, but trying to save fruit trees, had to do a bit of thinning branches and staking in, just let them survive.

Windy here near Cork City at the moment...Just lit the fire and the smoke is blowing out into the room from the vent in the stove...havent had that happen before so must be from a different direction or something...really hope it wont be too bad this time...people are still only getting over the last storm in some areas...

i have the same wish, felt helpless last time, banging of roof and could not look out, too much passing windows to frightened of a hit from something

It looks like it's going to be filling as it gets closer (to around 980-990 hp when it gets over land) so as things stand not a major event or anything close.

The models are not indicating a severe storm on Monday.

Just a level one potentially for west Munster on Monday night, max gusts around 55-60 kts ... no large tidal issues either.

Seems like the sting is draining out of the pattern even though it isn't changing very much.
