Really looking forward to this tonight. After such a brilliant turnaround to the season I hope they manage to at least bring it in to the final day. The Markets Field really is a great place to watch football and should be hopping tonight.

    Limerick 0-2 Shamrock Rovers

Rovers had a fairly comfortable victory in front of the cameras tonight. We pretty much handed them both first half goals. For the first, Robbie Williams played a suicide pass to nobody in the danger area right in front of his own goal and Rovers played in their striker to score.

For the second we did some of that 'high risk low reward' f**kacting passing round the back, eventually losing it and conceding a free on the edge of the area, which they scored from.

We had a goal disallowed for offside just before half-time - things might have been different if that had gone in, but in the second we never really came close to a goal.

The good news: Drogheda lost 3-0 at home to Longford, and, given our defeat, Sligo beating St. Pats 2-0 is kind of good news, as they are now completely safe and nothing to play for next week.

The table now looks like this:

    9 Sligo Rovers 32 7 10 15 37 52 -15 31
    10 Galway United FC 31 9 3 19 38 59 -21 30
    11 Drogheda United 32 7 7 18 29 57 -28 28
    12 Limerick 32 6 8 18 43 71 -28 26

Our goal difference is the same as Drogheda, and we are two points behind. It's very simple - if we win in Sligo, and Drogheda don't win away to Shamrock Rovers, we go to the playoff and they are relegated.

If we don't win, we are relegated.

Disappointing night but still alive for another week at least.

Team and the city needs premier soccer.

Who is the Limerick born and bred Irish international soccer player who is taking over the academy that Pato mentioned at half time, could only think of Tommy Gaynor.
Good assessment of the match osarusan, the goals were both shockers, Kanyuka is the least aggressive pound for pound defender I've ever seen, he tackles like a girl

Last few results have been a killer; and I don't think they really deserved anything either. It's been a tough season and basically the exact same team has been picked for the entire revival could be coming back to haunt us. There is no real depth in the squad.

Faherty looks very tired and did nothing in the last two. Lynch seems to be carrying an injury and he is such an important player. Playing Russell ahead of Tracy at left-back is just madness.

Kelly was fantastic the last day but Rovers had done their homework. Closed the space, allowed our defenders to have the ball for a certain bit but gave them no options and they regularly messed up. Kanyuka was disgraceful after he got his yellow.

It all comes down to Sligo. You have to remain hopeful but it will be tough.

Great start anyway, one up after 5 minutes. Heads up to anybody who doesn't realise it's being televised.

What's the scenario if Limerick win and Drogheda draw?

Limerick and Rovers both up by 2 goals, play off it is by the looks of things.

Drogheda get 1 back, another goal in either game will leave injury time extremely squeaky bum time.

Does anyone know the story with the playoff? Is it home and away or a once off? I'd imagine Finn Harps won't be a push over

I wouldn't think so. It's probably classed like a cup match.

Should be a big crowd Monday night. Hopefully close to a sell out. If we hit the 3,000 mark it would be outstanding.

Why is the second match away should we not b at home then

Was a flip of th coin by the FAI during the week. First division team drawn as home in second leg.

    Sligo 2-3 Limerick

    (Duggan, O'Conor, Faherty)

Just in the door from Sligo, where Limerick avoided automatic relegation with a fantastic win, combined with Drogheda's defeat. We started well with lots of pressure and took the lead when Turner teed up Duggan who curled it in from the edge of the area. We got let off the hook when Kanyuka gave away a penalty but Hall saved low to his right. Then Tracy crashed a shot against the bar and O'Conor was first to the rebound, and even though the Sligo keeper saved the first effort, he headed in the rebound. We had good chances to even further ahead, but then conceded just seconds before the break to a shot across Hall from the edge of the area.

We scored again when Turner sidefooted into the roof of the net from a knockdown to a cross from Russell, and with the news the Shamrock Rovers were winning, we could almost relax. But that is simply not the Limerick way.

We dropped too deep and invited Sligo on to us, and we eventually conceded very late on, but not so late that there wasn't time for one more Sligo chance which they missed at the back post. The final whistle went soon after that in both Sligo and Dublin, and we are still alive for another week at least.

Playoff is against Finn Harps, and the first leg is in Limerick on Monday at 7.45, with the away leg the following Friday.

EDIT: Edited nearly 48 hours later as it turns out Faherty got the third, not Turner)
