Explain why you should get financially rewared for having kids
You are not being "rewarded". If your children need support because you are a single parent, then your children need support. Women having a few children whom they cannot support is not a good thing, but they do unfortunately, and those kids need financial stability.
Stupid comments like ohhh don't blame the kids
It's not stupid, it's reality. Why is it stupid? Because it's inconvenient?
    Give everyone medical cards
So nobody actually pays for anything at all
Who the hell said that? Making stuff up is not good debating. Not everyone needs a medical card, but more do than the people whom you demanded should be the only ones who get one. You seem to be forgetting that sometimes people fall on hard times through no fault of their own.

AFAIK their dear to keep and every little help

as for nobody paying for anything if them great developers that nearly the whole country gave nearly 10 years admiring actually paid there loans there wouldn't be one tenth of the mess the country is in at the moment
instead of everyone else paying for in increased taxes:mad:

Godwins law at work I see somebody suggests spongers should not get booze and fags and we are in a Nazi state I see.

Somebody suggested that everyone on the dole spends their time smoking, drinking and gambling.

    Do you agree with that?

He also suggested that brickies won't work for less than €4,000 a week.

    I suppose that's true too?

No but they don't all spend their time looking for jobs either.

Taken away booze and fags for long term spongers is all I am suggesting.

These threads always attract the pricks. Strangely the one's that seem to spend their lives pontificating their own special brand of sh1te all over this forum on threads that have been done to death here.

Anyway enjoy the fruitless descent into thread lock.

    I miss the fun.

We could tell them that's what we're going to do and then when they're in there throw a few cylinders of Zyklon-B in and bury the evidence....

FCUK me, this place is going mad.

More educated responses, lovely stuff

Never heard about the people that commit crimes to get back into prison as it's a better life than they have on the outside?

You think it makes sense to spend €70,000 per head and have overcrowded prisons and people with loads of convictions walking around committing more crimes and increasing the costs of insurance, hospitals and the police force at the same time. Excellent, with this kind of thinking you could be a politician.

    Talk about stupid 'soundbiting' FFS?

Where did I say everyone, this won't affect the people that don't spend their money on drink, smokes and gambling. I take it you do and that is why you object?

    Talk about misquoting

I said "there is work out there but they are happy to sponge off the state rather that take a job on less than €4,000 a week."

Heard this story far too much, they won't work for €10/€20 an hour because they used to earn massive money, this is a problem caused by the Celtic Tiger, Irish people think as the foreigners do the job I won't.

Believe it or not people can and do reskill to get themselves back into the workforce and try improve themselves.

The amount of posters on this thread that are calling people on the dole "scum" is actually shocking. It is incredibly ignorant to tar an entire subset of the population with the same brush. Very few people are on the dole because it is the best choice they have, quite often it is the only choice they have.

Also once the government takes tax from you, its not your money anymore. Its the governments to spend as they see fit.

54% of the population is covered by medical cards and a lot of them are in full time employment that its self is wrong ,

Now child benefit is a reward for having kids most nearly all the women TDs openly comment that its a universal payment a reward for having children,

Lone parents is a different animal personally I've never come across a hard done by lone parent ,I know a few lone parents but none of them are struggling in any way that includes ,running a household ,running a car and keeping the kids in the latest of everything ,

There is people who genuinely need financial support but it shouldn't be in a lot of cases financial support for life

Did you ever think that the money going on essentials for spouses/ partners/ children rather than booze, smoking and gambling is a better way of using the free money they get?

Plenty of stories about children in school hungry and medical evidence to prove hunger/ starvation affects children cognitively and socially but you are right let their parents drink smoke and gamble and **** the future

I have no issue with people who have worked and cannot get work getting full dole for a year or two but longer than that it should be €30 a week.

Sick of hearing about all this ****e lately a brickie is on the dole for 3 years and they can't get work, there is work out there but they are happy to sponge off the state rather that take a job on less than €4,000 a week.

Just wow ! The kind of person that let's the kids starve while they smoke n gamble away the dole money are just going to find a way round a debit card or voucher system. All you'd be doing is punishing the less unscrupulous. And as for this 4k a week nonsense. Where did that even come from. I live in the real world, have done for years. You can't help those who won't be helped, but yes let's take away anyone's dignity, who's fallen on hard times, really kick em in the nuts.
