Just noticed that a caffe Nero is opening on Merrion row. So, a welcome addition or just too many chains at this stage?

Not a fan personally of their coffee. Nasty stuff.

Wish Pret a Manger would set up shop here though.

    You mean mcDonalds?

No, I mean Pret a Manger. They don't sell Big Macs as far as i'm aware.

Unless you are referring to the 33% non-controlling stake McDonalds sold in 2008 - which means effectively nothing.

I was, but clearly i have no idea what i am talking about.

Re Pret: I do like their food, but their coffee is pretty ordinary imo. Cant overly comment on nero as I cant recall the last time I had one.

Mneh. Nero is alright, but I only bother with it when I'm in the UK or the airport when I'm really stuck for a coffee and there's no other options. There's something plasticky and caricaturish about their coffees.

Plus, there's better choices on Merrion Row. Nowhere on Merrion Row sells *amazing* coffee, but Lolly and Cooks give a good run.

There's been a real renaissance in the coffee world in Ireland, with a lot of specialist coffee shops, roasteries, and more and more cafes using fresh roasted, fresh ground coffee.

Nero is probably the last thing we need.
