Might I add in the interests of balance that he also received the IRB 'Fair Play' award in 2011.

Oh dear. Suggest you do a bit more digging on that "award".

Maybe I have my red goggles on, but I'd give Quinlan the "most likely to be carded" or the "most likely to be in the middle of a punch-up" awards; but not the "most likely to put someone in hospital" category. I think it's the unexpected cheap-shots when someone's back is turned, or isn't expecting it, or is pinned down and unable to defend themselves - those are the ones that really rankle.

Ah no I don't think you need red goggles to take that view at all.

By way of craic (and no I am not his biographer/stalker) would you believe he received in total 8 yellow cards over a 200 plus first class match career ? 8??? Playing at 6/7 ????? Was he on the pitch at all ???????? :p

and thankfully the likes of Calum Clark, Williams, Hartley and Armitage are few and far between in the professional game

tbh, lumping Quinlan in with them is bang out of order imo

Don't think anyone compared him to Clark or Hartley?

Two suspensions for stamping and one for gouging making contact with the eye or eye area in the space of two and a half years, would, in my opinion, push you into the 'dirty' end of the spectrum. And it certainly pushes you out of the category of O'Brien, Cullen and Muller, as per .ak's initial point.

If he had more than one incident of gouging, which he has since stated he massively regrets then maybe I'd agree with you

But he just wasn't a dirty player outside of that isolated incident, at all

And that's taking into account his on-field demeanor in comparison to players I would consider dirty

Ah right, knew he had one but didn't know he had three.

Entirely unrelated to his disciplinary history, he's in unreal form at the moment.

He's a genuinely fantastic player. If he didn't see red, he'd have started at least one or two of the Lions tests. Shame about the on field behaviour. He comes across so well off the pitch. There was a fantastic photo of him after the game in Dublin.

If you note the lack of boots, it's because he gave them to the kid.

He does. He just seems to have some real anger/discipline issues. I think he was getting help for that at one point, so it is something he has acknowledged.
