Cork City Council operates two multi-storey car parks in the heart of the city, at Paul Street and North Main Street.
From next week shoppers and visitors to the city can avail of 2 hours free parking in both car parks between 10am-12noon each Thursday, Friday and Saturday until Saturday 15th March inclusive.
Free evening parking will also be available in the Paul Street car park on these days from 6.30pm to midnight.
    On-Street Parking
Commuters are also reminded that on-street parking is free of charge every Sunday.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Catherine Clancy said “I am delighted with this initiative. I hope that the people of Cork will avail of this very welcome and insightful offer of free parking in light of what the city centre, businesses and residents have endured in the past couple of days”

Mr Tim Lucey, City Manager said “This further initiative to assist business in the city centre is further evidence of the City Councils strong commitment to creating favourable conditions for both business owners and customers to enjoy the diverse range of offerings across retailing, leisure and hospitality on offer in the city centre. The Councils soon to be published City Centre Strategy will also provide further opportunity for the Council and the many stakeholders in the city centre to work in partnership in furthering the conditions required to secure and build on the ongoing attractiveness and wellbeing of the city centre. I encourage people to avail of this free parking and come in to the city to support the businesses in the city who have showed great resilience in recent days and ensured the city is open for business as usual”

free Park & Ride is a great gesture. Personally I wouldn't drive into town anyway even if parking was free but the Park & Ride is ideal.

Is this a reaction to trying to drum up business for the city since the floods lately I wonder? <edit: Ah yes, I've just read the article properly, so it is!>.

Somebody's after waking up, pity the other city car parks can't row in with a deal for shoppers.
