Why should an artist be banned just because a few people might not be fans? What about the, in this case, 400,000 + who are fans? Or do they not count?

I never said that they should be banned.

What happened to meeting in the middle? Can there not be a compromise?

meeting in the middle happened when the residents agreed to 3 on top of the other 2 for 1 direction when the agreement was set as 3 per year

promoter then proceeded to take the piss, residents are now responding

For someone who claims to be able to see both sides of the argument you seem to be coming down quite heavily on one side..

Ok but you did say there would be no way you would accept them playing a few nights in a row if you didn't like them.

I just wondered why personal dislike of an artist should come into it, that's all.

Promoters broke the agreement by the sounds of it. They were the ones that attempted to break the agreement and add 2 more dates.

If they didnt attempt to be so greedy this would have happened. Residents are well within their rights to oppose this pisstaking and attempt to block the concerts

Ya..they would seem to have reasonable grounds for complaint alright....if there match on sunday, they will have 6 days outta 7 with thousands passing their front door (though they cant complain about matches alright)

    Get out!

Also just give the residents a few all ireland tickets to quieten them down.

When they tried that the chosen few got the tickets and then flogged them on the black market.

This is just another event which will bring thousands of euro in the city, creating work for people.
I think that the residents are over reacting. It's not exactly Garvaghy Road

The area is manic on match days/big gigs, do not envy having to go through 5 days in a row of it. My Granny lived on Fitzroy Avenue, right beside Croker, until she passed away 2 years ago. Some people don't give a **** where they piss or toss their litter. And as mentioned, parking gets insane.

If an agreement was broken regarding the amount of gigs to be played, the residents have every right to complain.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

If the agreed quota for the number of concerts has been exceeded by two then surely a judge will have to rule in favour of the residents?

They know the score when it comes to living so close to Croke Park - hence the agreements, but they have been breached.

I suppose it seems that way alright.

To be honest I'm more for a compromise between the sides than anything. If made to choose though I'd be for those that enjoy Croke Park as a venue.

That's not to say I have no sympathy for the residents of course.

I just wouldn't like to see this great venue not used to it's full capacity.

What would a compromise be? Where is the middle ground?

Why should the residents enter into an agreement with an entity that breached the last one?

Let me give you a simple example. Let's say a nearby factories output stained your house with soot each year. Would you consider it fair that the factory gives you money to repaint your house, or, in your bizarre mind, shouldn't they give you a bag of soot or a blindfold?

    Nice username.

Let me give you a similarly condescending response.
What has soot and property damage got to do with concerts, Lone Wolf?

I understand that an outright ban isnt the way to go.

However, if its true that 3 was the agreed number of concerts with the residents, do you not think its fair that they are made stick to this number??

    Look up the word analogy.

Of course that's fair, I never said otherwise.

    Are Anology playing at Croker?

    So there is the compromise.

Cancel the extra concerts as per the agreement.

Perhaps some form of compensation to the residents for their troubles?

I just wondered why personal dislike of an artist should come into it, that's all.

There is a difference between 2 or three concerts a year of bands that you like and can listen to from your own home versus 5 concerts on the trot of one you don't like?
    Can you get that?

Also, in the middle of summer having to live with all your windows closed to try to drown out the sound for 5 consecutive nights is taking the piss in my opinion. Do you get that?

I think its very unfair that the agreement has been breached with the residents. However at the end of the day money talks. The two extra nights are worth too much to Croke park, Garth and the city in terms of tourism. The residents will be paid off and this'll die down. At least that's what I reckon.

Tough s*it. People live near soccer grounds in other countries with matches more or less every week.

As I said before corke park will be busy about 20 days out of the 365 days of the year. Its serious dry s*iteisim complaining about it.

Id only be glad to live so near to such a great amenity, they should shut up or move out.

Its like people who move to the country complaining when machinery is working in a field near there house at night during the summer, what did they expect?

LOL. You're behaving like a child. The surest sign of victory for me.

I am not sure they could adequately compensate the residents in this case. It is a highish density urban area that is lived in by many.
Also many people work in the area - do they get compensated for the inconvenience too?
Do the people who drive thru drumcondra on their way home from work get compensated too?
But yes, money does talk and they will figure a way of paying off the most vocal groups who are complaining.

Just to clarify, as there seems to be some confusion- the number of concerts that were provided for in the original planning was three (that's the 3 One Direction concerts in May). The addition of the Garth Brooks concerts constitutes an additional five events, which have not, as yet, permission.

I lived across the road from Croke park for two years. Never had much issue with events. Most of the crowds are fine.

I do have an issue with the residents association though. All they ever seem to do is moan. The whole time I was there I only heard from them about protests.

If you lived nearby you could apply for free tickets through a lottery but they changed that and gave them to the residents association. I had no interest joining so had I never got any free tickets.

For the hilarity factor I'd love to see all 5 shows cancelled.

So according to you it's ok and tough **** on me if on one of those 20 odd nights my house goes on fire or one of my children is hurt and emergency service vehicles can't reach us? Solve the parking issue and a lot of the complaints will disappear.

I've been to croke park on busy days more times than I can remember and I have never seen a reason why a firebrigade or emergency vehicle couldn't get to a house.

Of course I get that. Do you get that the people who paid to go to those 5 concerts do like that band/artist playing?

I just really don't get why a few peoples personal dislike of an artist should prevent others enjoying that artist?
Also, in the middle of summer having to live with all your windows closed to try to drown out the sound for 5 consecutive nights is taking the piss in my opinion. Do you get that?

That would be a real pain, I have no doubt.

That's why I said this was a tough one to call.
