Hi, I am looking for a burglar alarm in the Ennis area I've rang all the alarm companies in clare E.g clare alarms, Moniter, Banner security systems etc. I want a good quality alarm system and i would like to know who manufactures and what models they'd use because i would not like to be spending money on something that could be easily bypassed or that could fail

Have a look at the comparisons thread here for the different systems available.

Did that, and looked at some of the web sites of the suppliers, from the thread of "listed suppliers" which in a lot of cases are several years out of date.

I won't repost the questions I asked a couple of weeks back regarding upgrade options. but just ask if there have been any significant upgrades to HKC or Siemens since the comparison threads were posted, and also ask if any other panels are regarded as being "good" panels to have, it's hard to base opinions on threads here, as the majority only relate to problems, so we don't get to hear about the ones that are working with no issues.

Are there any panels still out there that are definite no go areas, either because they are out of date, or the manufacturer is either no longer operating, or not providing effective support in Ireland?

    Thanks

HKC are still pretty much at the same place & are still awaiting the long anticipated LAN card.
Siemens have had a few upgrades , but from an end user point of view nothing major.
    But to be more informative..
The latest 3.4.5 firmware has introduced various profiles for each user that allows for some very serious controls. Eg setting times when a code could only have certain privileges & other times have different privileges.
Another is the ability to say which alerts need to be cleared while others auto restore etc...
There are a few background changes around the app etc. Perhaps laying the way for some later new features.;)

    KK,

Thanks for that, it's helpful to know if the manufacturers are staying with the plan, or slipping, it's that sort of detail that's very hard to get access to, I have a client that wants a monitoring and control system for monitoring some specialist situations, no security monitoring or reporting, it will be dealing with things like water levels, potential flooding, standby generator fuel levels and status, computer room temperatures, but no perimeter security or access control, and getting information out of people like HKC is proving to be very hard, they seem to have this misguided idea that their panels are only suitable for "security", so PSA membership is a precondition to getting information out of them. I don't do "alarms" as such, so there is no way I can justify the massive cost and implications of PSA membership, even if it was possible as a sole trader, which realistically, it isn't, the whole thing has been set up to drive out small companies and individuals.

Totally frustrating, in that the modern panels are just a specialised computer, and I've been working with that sort of technology for over 40 years, so understanding it is easy, but getting access to the technical information is proving to be a lot harder than it should be.

Very much appreciate the heads up re the LAN card from HKC, as that is an option that's going to be relevant to the specific I mention above, and if it's not there yet, that loads the dice pretty substantially against their panels.

    Thanks for the input

Hi Steve, from what you are saying re the control you wan't Siemens would be the better panel for you. It gives you much more options re technical zones.
You could inputs for all the scenarios you are interested in. These inputs could be further controlled by calendars and/or cause & effect.
Eg on your temperature control , you could have a case where if the temperature goes above xx degrees switch an output to trigger a back up AC unit & send a text alert or an alert to an ACR etc.
Or if water reaches flood levels trigger an output to open a valve &/or register any number of other alerts.
Using calendars the likes of the above can be limited to only react within time zones set by calendars.
After that you have virtual outputs (Mapping gates) this allows any action from an input or output to trigger any number of other outputs or alerts.
And with IP access already in place you have full browser access & App access.

    KK,

Thanks for that, I am going to have to look at them, the local Electrical supply place here only does HKC, so I will have to look at the Siemens information. Do you have a link to the tech manual for the 4000 install manual, i think some not so light reading is called for.

    Cheers
