Absolutely crazy day near Mallow. I have never seen such violent gusts since at least 1997. The full aftermath won't become clear until tomorrow.

I think the met Eireann will have serious questions to answer over alerts given but that's for another day.

This morning they said that the dangerous period would be 10am to 2pm ! and in an area from Galway around the coast to Wexford, with Cork and Kerry the most likely to suffer.
Seems things wer more extensive than they thought.

Thought this was a bit ironic....

'The Met Eireann radar at Shannon Airport has been blown away - or at least badly damaged. It is currently offline. The weather people have said that repairs will be made as oon as possible.'

Red alert for Leinster now!!! Desperate winds in west Dublin now.

Why only now? This is madness. Bit late in the day.

This is turning into an absolute disgrace from Met Eireann

Met Eireann just released another severe weather warning for the south west from 15.00 to 19.00? I thought we in cork were through the worst, is there a reload on the way?

Its an update to the existing warning to include eastern areas, thats where winds will be strongest. You could still get some big gusts in Munster too from intense/thundery showers later though.

Have been living on a very exposed slope in the Dublin mountains for 10 years. I would be well used to the wind. I don't recall a worse day to be honest

It's treacherous here in Ballymount. I don't think I've ever seen it this bad. The roof sounds like it will be blown off.

Same here!! Wondering if any debris remaining at oxigen plant

Was just in Marley Park, South Dublin. Both I and the dog are safe. :)

The wind is bad, not that bad yet. The water table in the park is very high, some areas are just ponds now. RTE should have a live blog with updates.

I'm in Ballymount where things do sound bad. Very gusty and rocky. But no downed trees yet.

I'm on the 7th floor in Sandyford Industrial Estate in Dublin and I can well believe the RED alert, this is the strongest wind in the last 2 months.

Worst storm ever I reckon in Kilkenny city and county i can remember. Maybe not as prolonged as '97 but more severe and concentrated.

Durrow : the wind and rain slackened every so slightly between 15.30hrs and 16.15hrs, but I'm sorry to say that the wind has picked up again to almost full strength speed that it was here between 13.30hrs and 15.00hrs.

Also the lulls between gusts have reduced too unfortunately.

    Sky has darkened a lot.
